Stuck at 3.7 Ghz - Page 3

Um, looking at your CPU-z... Your Vcore shows 1.36, is that what it's reading after upping it to 1.53? Looks like you need more power on the cpu or the droop is ridiculous. Also, increase your Vdimm to 2.8(ram).

Warp 9 Mr. Sulu!

For example, heres mine at 242fsb at full droop. Notice its still at 1.50, Im set to 1.58volts in bios on the cpu. Granted that readings could be off.

no its at 1.41(i think) in the bios and reads 1.32 in cpuz, but i have had it at 1.52v and it still is unstable at anything over 249 fsb... i have run diveder of 3:2,upped voltage to 1.52,upped vdimm to 2.8? and upped agp freq. to 70 and still nothing.. cant break 249fsb(3.745ghz) and i have the E0 stepping which is supposed to be awesome,right?.... im becoming discuraged at this point!

I edited that last post...

And yes, the E0 stepping is supposed to be the best for these processors.

Well, I'm pretty sure that board goes up past 265fsb for overclocking.

What are you temps reading when you up that vcore? Your temp reading could be off one way or the other, so you might be thinking your temps are fine when they really aren't. You are using stock cooling. I had a Prescott 3.2 on this board and it topped out at around 250fsb with an xp90 cooler. With about 1.56vcore and E0 stepping. It actually started to throttle before I reached the limit. So I needed water cooling to go higher.

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that a cpu will overclock to any given speed. But its likely that cpu goes higher.

Have you tried going higher than 1.53?

my temps do skyrocket pretty high, right now at 3.74ghz im running 56-58 load and it rock stable.... but when i cranke the vcore it went up to about 60-63c... i havent tried to go over 1.53v for i am scared to with only stock cooling, but i would think that 1.53v is plenty to atleast break 3.8ghz, that would make me happy, just hiiting 3.8 stable, but i moreso want 4ghz... oh and yea my fsb can go way past 270 i think, ive done suicide runs at 4.1 ghz, but on prime i crash or reboot in about 60seconds of running it...

Well, you can download throttlewatch. Your CPU will throttle if it gets too hot and even shut itself down. It is not based on your onboard temp sensor. The cpu has it's own ON DIE temp sensor that is supposedly alot more accurate than the motherboards temp sensor.

So you can watch the software, see if it begins to throttle at whatever temps you are reading and kind of use that as a guage. These chips throttle from 68 to 73, and its very difficult to fry your prescott cpu from just a few quick test sessions.

I let my 3.2 thottle for about 15 minutes until it almost completely shut down by shutting down the HS Fan, just to see what it would do. It was still going strong after I brutalized it and turned the fan back on. LOL. The temp went up to about 80celcius before I shut her down.

And even while all that heat and throttling was going on, it didn't error out with prime running.

I seriously think in your case, its a vcore problem.. But, I could be wrong. who knows...
