New system boot problem!

Well it seems the system I thought had no problems has something wrong with it now and I dont know what it could be. What happens is everything goes fine up until after the xp load screen. It happens from a restart and cold boot.

The computer posts, xp loads about 8 bars then the screen goes black and just stops. Hard reboot works and pc enters xp with no problems after. This has only happened a few times, maybe 5 or 6 but its got me worried as I had a similar problem with another system which eventually died after getting worse and worse...

I have installed and activated the windows hotfix as well as the amd fix, Im using catalyst 6.1 and I installed the latest nvidia chipset drivers. I have a mini switch so I can use one keyboard for 2 pc's but Im pretty sure it happened even when it was unplugged so I ruled that out. I can play BF2, X3GTA SA etc.. with no problems and 3dmark06 runs fine as well (aside from dishing out a low mark at around 3000)

Im guessing and hoping its a windows problem and not my hardware but theres so many things it could be I just dont know where to start troubleshooting! Anyone care to get me started!?

Try hitting F8 before the load screen and tell it to boot into VGA mode -- if it works then your resolution is set too high for the monitor. This seems likely...
