Help still overheating my PII 965 C3 stock clocks

Thread Starter
I've been having overheating issues with my 965 C3 , during extended periods of time of doing nothing it gets down to 35ish but 5 seconds of Prime95 gets it up to 60*.

At first I thought it was the H-50 so I put back on the regular heatsink and it wouldn't go into windows without going into thermal shutdown, so I assumed it was the CPU. I took out the CPU and airdusted the socket and tried again, no go. So I RMAed the CPU , just got my new CPU and it's doing the same thing. So now I flashed my MOBOs bios to the latest edition and it's still overheating pretty good. Right now it's idling about 40* on my H50 If I game long enough on Bad Company 2, it will get past 60* and put my computer into thermal shutdown. *note* This is with cool N quiet and stock clocks/volts.

Is it possible its a bad mobo? I am kind of wiery about trying to RMA it as it's a DFI and I hear nothing but horror stories about RMAing DFI products.

Any other idea's as to what it could be?

No options left but bad mobo imo. So RMA that bastard!

BTW Your PSU is 2x times too big for your rig! 400-450W would be enough. 950W is sick! It may cause some thermal problems or I dunno.

Yeah check how much are all voltages with AMD Overdrive or CPU-Z/HWMonitor. Mobo may put VCORE and that to way too high voltages so check them immediately!

Hmm, I just noticed at full throttle it was going to x18 multi and 1.55 core voltage... not sure why it was doing that , but still 1.55 shouldn't take it to 60c in 5 seconds... or should it?

Well I turned of CnQ , and set multi and volt to AUTO in bios...

CPU-Z says Core voltage is 1.552V , Core Temp says VID 1.3750v

How do high CPU temps relate to a motherboard problem?

I had the M3H5. Run OCCT and look at the PSU graph. It delivers stable voltage, more so than most AM3 boards.

Something is wrong with how it is seated or maybe you just have bad fans. My friend has the H50 running on X58 platform and it is a piece of crap. 4ghz with HT off lands it at like 82C in moderately cool ambients of like 70F.

60C on 1.55v for 3.6ghz is normal for a mediocre cooler like that. DFI RMA is fine, I had a one week turnaround on my board (only complaint I have is the SB heatsink is a little scratched on the replacement but oh well). There is no need to RMA and I doubt they are going to approve it in the first place.

Also don't leave anything of the main voltages on auto. Set your vcore manually. IIRC that board defaulted high on the CPU-NB voltage (actually I think it was the M2RSH but it could be both) so you might want to set it around 1.3v if it is really high.
