Long, slow and cheap

Thread Starter
Did that intro post thing, but for those who might have missed it, lemme once again say HI and thanks for all you who have indirectly taught me by posting.

My noisemaker isn't really all that cool yet, but with your help maybe one day it will be.

Had a nice laptop but it died, during the time I owned it, I fell out of the hardware loop.

Had to do some quick research and thankfully I had this forum to learn from....hopefully I made a semi-informed decision. Friends don't let friends buy dells.

I am a poor broken chump so don't expect too much too fast, but I'll do the best I can.

Got an Athlon II X2 250 to 3.6ghz in a MSI NF750-G55, with a Tuniq 120 on top. OCZ 1600 (CL7) at 1333 (6-6-6) for now.

Sorry I only have half a case, I only have half a power supply too. She gets me around the web though.

Crappy onboard kinda whoops on my old laptop so pretty happy myself.

Feel free to post how you like, criticism, compliments, advice welcome.

Soon as I get a new power supply and video card, I wanna get this thing and my P4 video pc folding, will be reading up on that too.

So, here's a pic of my heap...I'm not shy.

Be back with more soon, have a great weekend new friends.

It's a nice cheap mobo for sure, I scored it open box for $80....the alternative would have been the same board (almost) in socket 775 for $100. It might have been faster, but this way I got ddr3 and the latest AMD socket.

That was my reasoning anyway.

As fas as video, the board has an onboard 8200 gpu, which turned out to be a real good thing because the HD 4650 my buddy sent me doesn't like me. It didn't like him either though, which is why it was free.

Still the onboard is pretty amazing, it'll run any game, at medium to low settings though.

I like to play games on occasion but mainly I draw in Solidworks.

I've been playing in the bios on this board and HT link (fsb) stops working at over 330. I hit a wall at about 3.7 on stock voltage, I will try again once I get a new power supply, I don't want to play with voltages till then.

Happy Saturday morning to all of you.

nice, hope you can get a working graphics soon

some of the newer chipsets are downright respectable, like the HD4200 on the 785g motherboards and the HD3300 on the 790s, 3200 on the 780g, etc

i have a 3200 on my little 780g motherboard, but i use an HD3450 anyways, as i can then hybrid crossfire, which works flawlessly in windows 7 (but hates XP >_>)

I'm pretty amazed by the onboard of this too, must be the physX thing? Still not sure what that does but even though I do 1800 in 3dmark , it runs all the latest games no problem....except for metro.

I've had a few ATI cards long ago, an AIW 9500 or 9800. I got to play with Nvidia 4200TI too recently...both older than dirt but I liked both cards.

I will probably go Nvidia unless I can positively crossfire on this board somehow, plus hybrid power might be nice.

Anyone think a 260 would be overkill for my cpu? Or should I just do it and get a phenom later?

Thanks for your advice.

Given that you are strapped for cash, I would say an older 8800 Ultra or 9800 GTX would do the trick.

Been eyeing those 2, saw a 260 for pretty cheap though. Thanks for your input and for stopping by.

Nice specs on that card for the price, thanks for the link.

Lemme ask you this though, and it may be a silly question but which ati card do I have to step up to to have a 'fully enclosed' style card? That card while nice looks ugly to me.
