OP updated with results. The shroud sort of worked, but the card is still hot. Glad to know you liked it. I wanted to make it out of my Capt Crunch box, but I'm not done with it yet.

Different GPU has different voltage adjustment range, just like CPU, we can't guarantee user can adjust to very high voltage and achieve super high clock. we define voltage upper limit based on our lab samples. but retail products are always different with samples, we found some are far better than sample (works fine under 1.5v), and some aren't.

In your case, it's not bug.
No concrete replies from MSI on their forums about the temp or overvolt issues.

From MSI service request about overvolt issues:
Quote:
Dear Customer, The features are there for overclocking but we do not support overclocking because it puts ware and tear on the parts. Also there is no guarantees that overclocking it will work... Thanks Bryan MSI Technical Support..
I've seen other forum posts on the aforementioned sites that also relate to the overvolt issues, but no one seems to care about the temps because I don't think anyone else has really compared the two types of cards. I'm RMAing my card. Bo_Punk_2.0 has said he is having problem with the card also.

ive recently bought a 5850 twin frozr II, and i noticed i couldn't get the voltage above 1.144V, if i use above voltage with higher clocks i get a Black screen, tested it with kombuster and in games, so could you make a new bios with proper voltage control, many users have this problem and this card is made for OC, high quality military components + twin frozr II fan, i alsow bought a 5770 haxk and i could upped the voltage a lot with 1000mhz core clock and 1400 mhz memory clock, but the 5850 is really awful, can not get a stable oc clocks because of the voltage, so pls fix this, thx for all the help

hi there,

this seems to be the only available test of the MSI card on the net so far.
I got mine today and wondered about the temps in furmark (and 3D mode at all)

I get 92° in furmark and its freakin cold here

I already was beyond 95° with extrem burning mode and AA enabled.

Fan goes to 100% within notime, almost the same ingame (left4dead 2/dragon age).

Get the same problem with the voltage btw, but i decided to stay away from trying any OC on this card for now, dont want to cook my comp

Yep, I had the same issue. Already RMA'd mine.

The card is just disappointing. Why would MSI make a card like that and then say they don't support overclocking?
