Autoplay not working anymore in W7 64 Pro

I have W7 64 bit Pro installed and for the last week or so, autoplay is no longer working. The following are examples of what does not work anymore.

when I put a dvd in or mount an iso, it no longer autostarts in VLC.
I insert a CF card in the card reader and i now longer get the Choose an action box.
When i have a dvd inserted or an iso mounted and double click the physical or virtual drive, it acutally opent to show my the contents rather than playing the movie as it used to.

I have checked the auto play settings and everything is as it should be.

Any ideas?

Have you tried using the "Reset all defaults" button (at the bottom of the Autoplay settings) and restarting?

If not, that may be worth a try.

If you enable Windows 7's "God Mode", there's an entry for setting default behaviors for things like this.

Since "God Mode" is just a compilation of everything in Control Panel and Administrative Tools, the setting is likely in there too...but "God Mode" is pretty handy and worth enabling.

I have an icon for god mode on the desktop and will look thru it again.

I tried that but didnt restart the system after resetting. Will try with restarting.

I just set up God Mode on my work computer and found it. It's the 3rd section down called "Autoplay". The link redirects to Control Panel\\All Control Panel Items\\AutoPlay
