Oh no, I'd better return my card! Actually the 4870 runs hotter than the 480, so anybody who has a problem with the 480 but not the 4870 is clearly biased. Look here for the 480 and here for the 4870.

Yeah, an extra $80 is very reasonable for the performance bump, particularly the minimum FPS and AA. And I assume you have owned a 480 and heard the noise level first hand? Because there have now been a handful of articles debunking it's the insanely loud noise argument

It's actually up to 50% faster than the 5870 depending on the game. 80C is fine with me. My GTX 285 hits that easily. Power consumption? I changed all the light bulbs in my house from 60w to 13w and guess what? The power bill did not go down

God, 85% or 100%, that's gotta be LOUD. 65% is loud to me on my 5850. 65% sounds like it doubles the noise of my whole case and I have the Nzxt Hush, which is supposed to be a quieter case.
It's fan speed percentage, not raw RPM. No conclusions can be drawn by comparing the fan speed percentage of cards with different fans. For example I noticed how the 4890 on 100% is significantly louder than a 285 at 100%.

It's around 11% without and 15% with AA. However it is on average 20% more expensive. This would be acceptable if there wasn't a huge difference in power and heat.

While it does lend itself to being a bit more future proof when it comes to tessellation, the only time it shows a significant difference is in extreme tessellation in the Heaven benchmark. We aren't going to see that level of tessellation for at least another 2 years.

I had a HD 4870 and because it was non reference it would run hot and that was 79C with 40% fan. Also i am not comparing HD 4870 but with Hd5870 instead.

You can pick one review site if you want but the real results vary depending on the game and settings. Like I said. The card can be up to 50% faster than the 5870 and is only100 dollars more and you get CUDA and PhysX and way better tessellation with it, much better software support. Meaning better drivers and more optimized games.

Also I like how you claim your card doesn't even hit 60C with less than 50% fan speed. Now you are talking about one of the hotest cards and you said you had one and it did 79C at 40% fan speed. Where do you live? In the North Pole?

I still don't get it why people are saying GTx480 is hot and gives only 10% more performance. People always see the max fps and say yay i have the fastest GPU. But real fact is the min fps and max fps ratio. Which i think till date there is no GPU as good as 480 or 470. And i can see that max fps isn't high though crysis being nvidia game. Maybe some better drivers? 4870x2 was the worst gpu can that compared to GTx280? What a horrible card it was! yet the ati fanboys justify there purchase to be great!
