First Water cooling attempt

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I only recently started thinking of doing water cooling. I honestly don't know much yet, so I need help choosing the components that are compatible. My budget $300-$400.

This is only for my CPU,
I know that I want a 120x2 rad,
Preferably all black loop, and all internal

Heres what I put together with my limited knowledge:

(PT nuke was out of stock)
I already have TIM, and fans will come off my megahalems.

What else do I need? Any changes/suggestions?

i wouldnt use that res, id use a fesser rad like the 220 or 320 or a xspc rx220 or 320. also would use the ek supreme hf wb. you going to need a thick 220mm rad if you want good temp with a i7

Ok, I'll check those out.

How about the fittings and tubing, are they compatible?

You should ditch that Feser Ultra Pure Coolant. It's overpriced. Just go to a local publix and pick up 2 gallons of distilled water for like $2 a gallon. Then order some PT Nuke PHN for a biocide.

Alright cool. Those 2 gallons of distilled plus the PT Nuke for biocide should last you along time too.

To xlr8ter:

Like AKIMbO said, use PT Nuke PHN with distilled water. You could also use a silver kill coil found here. Silver has excellent anti-microbial properties.

The Enzotech Sapphire (SCW-RevA) is a good budget water block. For LGA 1366 socket you need the "Z" mount kit.

I would also suggest some teflon tape for the threads on the fittings. It's just one more precaution against leaks. Your local hardware store should carry it, just say you need it for pipe threads.

What kind of fans are you planning to put on that RX240 radiator? It is designed for low rpm/quiet fans. Just an FYI.

Teflon tape is not needed if the barb has an o-ring on it. You should only use teflon tape when the barb doesn't have an o-ring.
