I wanna be the guy has got this hands down. I made it to the Tetris screen then nearly chucked my monitor out the window.

With Starcraft, it depends on how much skill we're talking about. You can be quite skillful but not be that great compared to the Koreans. Or how far you want to go with it.

Chess.

For those of you saying SC/WC

Starcraft and Warcraft have two main differences in terms of skill. Starcraft is a game of economics(macro), while Warcraft is a game of unit control (micro). Starcraft used to be a micro-oriented game, until iloveoov started to just out produce everyone he played, which is why every single standard build today is focused on getting a fast expansion.

I think SC and WC pros would agree that SC is a generally more difficult game. However Starcraft 2 right now looks more like a micro game, I'm positive the metagame will shift to economics just as it had done with brood war.

But really, the main reason why SC is so "hard" is because there are 8 pro teams in Korea that have like 20 players, and each of those players have to play the game 10 hours a day. Which leads to the skill level of this game to be so high. None of us normal people can even understand the intricacies that the Koreans have developed while playing this game.

Haha gunz is oldschool. You're basically garbage until you can butterfly.

Dota is not that hard, I played casual for a year or two and found myself better than 90% of players.

I have to agree with OP, Starcraft is in a completely different realm of competitiveness that most gamers can't even comprehend. It's a national sport in Korea

Vanilla WoW was up there as far as teamplay goes. Getting 40 heads together that knew what they were doing and working together simultaneously to do the obscene Naxx encounters was no easy task.

...there are many people who say the same things you say about MW2 about Counter Strike. I am not denying it takes skill - but dueling in (for example) Quake3 requires a hell of a lot more skill - from movement, to aiming, to tactics than Counter Strike ever can.

Counter Strike cannot compare simply because it tries to be realistic. Including realism in a game gives it predetermined limits...

Anything game that has the luck factor in them does not require much skill. Chess has no luck factor so its a game that requires skill.

Something that is not a game but really is just like a game all though it is all mental, is the CISCO learning tool called Packet Tracer. It is a tool to test your knowledge of computer network configuration. It is not much fun at all, but you really can use this on a job, unlike "real" games. You place "devices" on a logical workplace and correctly cable and configure everything and then send packets of different types that contain different information depending on what level of the OSI structure they represent. you can examine the info they contain and tell what is going on in your network.

I have not scratched the surface of packet tracer and my Professsor who is a Phd. says he does not know all about Packet Tracer. You can take this one to the bank.

Garry's Mod. Specifically, building either really awesome machinimas or really awesome contraptions.

Any minge can put four wheels and a thruster on a bathtub and have fun. But it takes some serious skill to build a realistic looking Dodge Viper with opening doors, a working convertible top, realistic steering+suspension, etc etc.
