Planning to upgrade to Dual Core

Thread Starter
Hello,

Im planning to upgrade to dual core, and i want to know what you guys think.

My initial idea was to get the following AMD
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103547

Then, i was reading different forums, and seems that a better buy, could be

AMD Opteron 165 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103588

Cheaper, and more L2 cache. Now im wondering if i could overclock to reach X2 4200 speed, with stock cooling. What you guys think? any experience with thiese CPU?

thanks in advance,
My System

I would personally get the opty, It will OC much better than the 4200+ and it's a better bang for the buck...

I agree, either the Opteron 165 or the X2 3800+ would be better buys IMO, if you intend to overclock.

the 165 is the better option between the 3800, 4200, 4400. cheaper, more L2 than the first two, and overclocks beautifully...expect 2.5-2.7 air..

Yeah, if I'd known ahead of time I'd have gotten an opty, not a 4400+...
