1900xtx Bottleneck? - Page 2

Thread Starter
*shrug* but I think there is a law of deminishing returns as far as GPU/CPUs go. If you have a barton, (assuming there was a PCIe board that an AXP would work on) you might as well just get a 6800 because its never going to be able to process the info a x1900xtx is going to wanna throw through it. I mean, having the x1900xtx would work better than the 6800 but again, diminishing returns....

that is a good look at it with the deminishing returns, but has no real relevence to my post as i said there is no game engine that will really need any more cpu power then the 3.6 will give thus not really creating a bottleneck in current games, you are quite right though.

a modded card will never have the full potential of the card... I saw it with an x800 GTO² flashed to a x850 XT PE and it had a 300 - 400 point difference with the same hardware. IS this true ?

The XT and the XTX are different in other ways apart from clock speed. The XTX can overlock quite a bit higher than the XT, in general, at lower voltages.

Where did you read that, most reviews I read never mentioned anything like that. And some said the opposite.

I've not really read it anywhere. Just comparing the overclocking results of the cards on different forums and to my own overclock as well. The XTX cards seem to be able to reach higher clock speeds at lower voltages.
It makes sense though, the XTX would most likely have the best GPUs and the XTs have the speed binned ones that didn't make the XTX version.

Come over the OCForums and take a look in the ATI sections... The XTX has no problem OCing while people are stuggling to get the XT above 800 mem....

Kind of true. The XTX has a guaranteed 1.1ns ram whereas the XT is guaranteed 1.2ns. However, the first batch of XTs all seem to have come with 1.1ns. As SCCR pointed out though, no-one knows if this will continue. I suspect later batches will revert back to 1.2ns, as originally planned.
