Torrenting on university internet connection?

Thread Starter
If I were to use utorrent on a university internet connection, and set it to only use outgoing encrypted packets and only accept incoming encrypted packets and download a linux distro, would the university be able to see what I was downloading?

Why would you care if the university saw what you were downloading? Its not like your talking about downloading illegal material, because discussion of such topics is forbidden on OCN.

...and yes if they looked close enough they could find out.

I don't see how using a Linux distro would further encrypt the data, but I've been fine using the "Forced" encryption on uTorrent. Then again, if you have a college that makes you use your username and/or Student ID to log onto the network, you're screwed.

Discussion of privacy (not piracy) is allowed.
Once again...

You didn't read his post correctly. He's not using a Linux distro, he's downloading a "Linux distro".

Of course there are, I was just making the point of why would he want to hide legal torrents?

Yes, we at Overclock.net frown upon torrenting Linux distributions.

Here is what gives you away: when torrenting you're connecting to tenths of IPs in a minute, that can only be explained thru torenting. While it's not direct evidence, it is good enough to get you caught. If you're dlding Linux distros you could also use the classical HTML way: click and save
