Best AGP Socket 939 Mobo?

Thread Starter
Just wondering what is the best AGP based Socket 939 Motherboard out there right now? I just do not see the advantage of going with a PCI-E video card right now. I was able to unlock the pipelines and pixel shaders on the card I have now, and am not interested in upgrading at this time. I.E. "You need to upgrade to PCI-E video cards because...", don't want to hear it.

I like the concept of cards like this ASRock http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157081 that enables me to upgrade to PCI-E based cards in the future, but it seems there are a lot of glitches where video cards and memory are concerned. I found this Abit Motherboard http://www.pcprogress.com/product.asp?PID=ABAV8&m1=pg but the price is $30 more then what it should be, but that would not hold me back. The problem is not finding one, but finding one that is good for overclocking and that the price has not skyrocketed because of decreased supply.

Any input and suggestions of good motherboards would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I am very happy with my Asus A8V. here

The price is decent as well, the second mobo you linked is terribly overpriced.

I have heard that those are here or there for overclocking. How about the Asus A8V Deluxe? I have heard that they are decent for overclocking. I have had good luck with Abit brand motherboards in the past. How would the Asus A8V Deluxe compare to the Abit AV8?

I've got the AV8. Over all I like it, but the AGP lock gets sketchy past 270 FSB. So for heavy overclocking it may not cut it. It's also a VIA chipset, and most consider Nvidia the best for overclocking. All things considered I'm happy with it though. Great layout.

Well, you guys are naming the Mediocre s939 Mobo's you haven't listed any nForce3 mobos, which are the best:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813123222
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128286

And of course like you said before the AGP + PCIe ULi Chipset Motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157081

I think if you do a little research you may find that its a better choice to have that motherboard although there are some memory concerns. They may have come out with a BIOS Update to fix those problems.
