Another CPU as GPU

Thread Starter
Why dont the graphics card companys release a graphics card that runs at 1ghz+. Is it because the x86 architecture wont do graphics? the PCI-E bus runs at 4gb\\s, surely thats enough. It may not be cost effective but for the 'professional' or 'gamer' im sure it would sell.

Its really got me baffled - i may not be the biggest graphics tech-head but im sure it could be done with a little effort on their side

slap me if im being stupid, lol

itd be completly fdifferent instructions, and if they were to do it as you said, its called software rendering, which is very slow.

Processors aren't designed to render 3d Graphics for performance, they can't handle texture mapping and polygon rendering. They're more for... crunching =)

Even a 2.8GHz FX57 would be MUCH slower at rendering 3D than many high or even mid range graphics cards, the fact is a GPU is heavily optimized at what it does and believe me, x86 is far from modern GPU architectures, so...
