GeForce GTX 480 vs Radeon HD 5850 CrossFireX performance

The latest Driver from ATI not only improve performance but also lower the power consumption.
Even a pair of Radeon HD 5850 in CrossfireX use lower power than Geforce GTX 480.
CrossfireX scales very well now.
I can't imagine how powerful the HD 5850 in CrossfireX overclocked to 1000MHz. Very sure it'll makes other cards running out of its price/performance.

Wow. The prices in Europe suck eh?

A 5870 is cheaper than a GTX470, and 5850 crossfire costs just as much as 1 GTX480 o.o

Anyway, it looks like crossfire scaling still has room for improvement.
Spec-wise, a 5970 shouldn't lose to 5850 crossfire in some benchmarks, but apparently that's not the case.

Yeah I saw this comparison, saying at £450 you can get 2x 5850's or a single 480, and resulted in the CF 5850's beating the 480 in 90% of cases, at stock speeds.

NV sure did go conservative on the Fermi power consumption rating.
I mean how can the 480 consistently draw more power than the higher rated 5970?

But yeah, CF/SLI of lower enthusiast level cards has always been the bee knees.

It sure is! Although one fermi chip still weighs in at about 80% of the silicon that 2x cypress chips measure. Given the 15-20% gains over the 480, I'd say that's about right, although Fermi does edge it out slightly in performance per mm2 of silicon....if that figure even means anything, hahaha.
Ummm....

That would mean something if it translated to lower prices. However, that's not the case.

Now we must remember that this is good for us consumers.

As far as the power consumption goes grunion I'm not really sure. My guess goes to the die size and transistor count difference.

Hopefully Nvidia will bring prices down eventually, as I use some Cuda enabled programs with gpu acceleration. I also fold. So for now I'm stuck with my trusty GTX 275.

May I know the cost of GTX 480 and 2x HD 5850 in US?
GTX 480 cost around US$580 and Radeon HD 5850 cost around $310 ($620 for CrossfireX setup).
The price gap is around $40.
How about in US?

well I cant be a barometer..I got both of my 5850s in open box deals on newegg...so I spent 440USD for them... but one can get two powecolor 5850s +PCS for 299USD... so price wise it isnt too far off with price versus performance wise...
