16mb vs. 8mb of cache in HD

Thread Starter
Is the difference really that noticable, between 16 and 8mb of cache?

What are the benefits of 16 over 8?

The only thing I could think of is the HD's internal transfer rates might be slightly faster. Other than that its the industry trying to make you believe that you need 16 over 8. Kinda like everything else! lol.

I think it is probably worth it--I certainly noticed the diff when I bumped up to 8MB from 2MB--if you are transfering large files it would have to help...

I think the jump from 2 to 8MB is more noticeable than 8 to 16MB. That being said, why not go for 16, unless its more expensive, and its usually not by much.

it helps mostly when accessing the same files over and over. Maximum pc said the 300gb 16mb cache diamondmax 10 was "within spiting distance" of the raptors benchmarks.

Here is the difference between WD Cavier 200gb 8mb cache and WD Cavier 250gb 16mb cache, better transfer rates, less cpu usage and shorter access time. Price difference between a 250gb 8mb and 16mb cache WD is only 10$ so i think it worths.

8mb

16mb
