I 9800GTs are the equivalent of the GTS250 I believe, and I think it's just a re-branding.

I didn't understand what you meant by that, thought you were comparing a single 9600GT to a GTX260. I guess in SLI they might be.

I thought you can't unlock cores with Nvidia chipsets.

this board would make me be forced to use sli eh? i won't be able to crossfire. are there are am3 chipsets that support both crossfire and sli? especially around the same price?

There are no chipsets for AMD CPUs that officially support both SLI and Crossfire. I think there are driver hacks to get around it though. Currently only some X58 and P55 Intel chipset boards officially support both SLI and Crossfire.

I had an 8800GT and it ran 1280 x 1024 perfectly for more games, so I'm sure it would. Thought I have not heard good things about the 9600, I've never looked into it.

What's with Asus and putting ACC switches on their motherboards...Anyway, like Ben said, there is no AM3 motherboard that officially supports SLI and CF. You can get a CF motherboard and hack it to have it SLI, but I don't think you can hack a SLI motherboard to CF.

uff, that kinda sucks. fermi isn't looking hawt and the next hd6000 series is about the time i'll upgrade. by next generation after that one i doubt there'll be good sli support for the board and it'll turn out like my old sli micro atx... hopefully not.

any word on nvidia releasing a sli chip for the amd800 chipset boards?

I've seen some benchies that show a 9600GT overclocked performing about 1-3 frames slower then a 8800GT on stock clocks. I've also heard that sli'ed 8800GTs perform much like a GTX280.
