Let alone, the ram/psu/screen/cpu is either over kill (going to be upgrading) or not that good. the PSU (already picked out) is basically the best you can get for the cash right now.

thanks for the suggest tho...

However this build is also a learning curve, and getting a bunch of variety will be worth it (let alone, a ssd will increase the ROI like you say).

Let alone that ultra-realistic mod for HL2 would be something I would like to try as well. I heard that was 64-bit based. Hmmmm....I dunno now if I should stay with the 8gbs or not. One guy got increased speeds on his controller (went up by like 500+mb/s speeds).
I'm playing HL2 on 1080p with the Cinematic mod R10 on my sig rig and it runs just fine. I don't know if it's a 64-bit app or not.
But as I've said, unless your application itself is 64-bit based (Adobe Creative Suite CS4 and newer are memory hungry and 64-bit coded) Windows will not be able to address an amount higher than 3.25gb to that application.

Also, always keep in mind: upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade!!!
You're already doing a good move with the Phenom II x2 instead of going all in with a X6...

Is that per application? If I'm running multiple windows while pulling off lets say the mod then would I have a chance of using more then 3.25gb in total? I'm kinda happy with the 8gb of ram but now I feel like reworking the entire build D:
It's per application. So lets say you have 8GB's; you can (in theory) run 2 games (x86, low graphical demands, CPU demand, but only 2 core capable) you'll still have enough ram, video power and CPU power to use them all (accounting you have a quad core at least.

I don't think you need to redo the whole build, just a few tweaks here and there, I give a kudos' to the person that spotted it out, I didn't know you where going for 4 sticks of 8gb of ram...

i might just pick up the 8gb and raise the budget to around 1800-1900ish to include all the extras (mouse, keyboard, ssd, headset). but ya, not a whole system change but tweaks here and there.... then upgrade in 2 summers for gpu and cpu.

this is what i'm looking at now:

TOTAL PRICE: 1780ish (with shipping and taxes)

Humm, what about this Onyx SSD instead? It was reviewed and approved to be good at really cheap price-point.

Do you really need 2tb of Storage O_O? You went from 2 drives in RAID (1tb total) to 2 drives (1tb each) + ssd? Just checking

Also the screen you've selected is low res (your choice actually) and 5ms (too high for gaming in most people's opinions).
Here's an idea of a good one ASUS VH226H 21.5", same as mine but 2ms and only 180$. Just checked, no other screens are at 2ms except that one, there's other sites, but I'm just checking newegg.ca for now.

Also, take an extra 30 minutes and get stuff from NCIX with combination of Shopbot.ca you'll save a ton!

Example:

Phenom 555
DVD drive
Spinpoint F3's
Antec True-Power PSU
Razer DeathAdder
Hyper 212+
HAF 922
M4A89GTD PRO
Logitech G110

Just a quick example how to save a lot

hehe, i might just do that actually... do that shop bot thing with ncix. they would more then likely have ALL the parts that I want.

as for the 2 1tb drives, im going to raid them was just fooling around...might get them in the end since i might be getting more games and (maybe) need the space... haha. my friend fills his 320gb drive with steam games alone :O

hmmm about the onix. the speeds seem to be pretty low. a guy tested his a-data drive and got 175mb/s on the reads. the onix maxes at 120?

as fort eh screen, as much as i would love to have a high res again like my old 24in, i just don't want to be forking out 300+ bucks a generation just to keep playing at its res. i've also heard that the ms doesn't matter as much because of the 60hz refresh rate. i read a thread on here once and someone said the max you can get is around 8-16ms in more realistic terms. if the screen was 120hz then yaaa xD

5ms is fine for me. i do notice a bit of ghosting but its fine. i used to game on a 8 or 16ms 17in dell lcd back in the day. but hmmm....is there a 2ms gtg 1440x900 screen that'll be in the price range D:

Looks better (hard drive wise).
Thing you need to keep in mind with an SSD is not the raw speed, but rather the IOPS and random 4k access, I'd need to back my saying with some sources though, I'll look into it when I get to work this afternoon.

As for NCIX price matching, sometimes there's some parts that they just don't have so I order from newegg/NCIX and my personal business suppliers where I get cheaper prices and no shipping fees. For example I get hard drives from there because it's cheaper and there's no shipping involved (except the 10 minutes travel in my car) so not a big risk of the drive to fail.

Which part of Canada are you in actually? Might be able to help you out a bit more
