This gtx 480 with a stock vid of .987v is ridiculous!

940MHz core and 2400MHz memory

Those clocks are awesome for that card. The memory bandwidth is incredible.

I still don't get how it can run so cool even if the fan was at 100%, that's just so damn cool. I put my memory at 2000 and it gets to the 90s.

Also I used the latest Kombustor and it looks all messed up like yours. Older versions look fine.

NCspec has to be water cooled right?

Also, your screen shot clearly says 940/2400/ 1.138v, not .987.

This, plus water cooling, would be entirely in line with what dengerden has gotten on their WC card.

I got a couple of noob questions. First time i'll OC my GPU... lol. (even though i've already OC my Q6600 and my i7)

I downloaded XtremeTunerHD to OC the core clock and shader clock. pretty easy. I also have MSI afterburner, but it wont let me use Kombustor to test my OC. Btw, i'm not aiming for a big OC, just like 750 core clock and 1500shader, maybe 800/1600. Is it realistic to think i can OC to 800/1600 without changing the voltage ?

Can i just play games and see if it's running alright without crashing, or should i really use Kombustor ? Where can i get it if it wont let me use it in afterburner ? How long should i run kombustor ?

thx

I think he has his cards setting in an open workbench with a giant fan pointed at them.

Yes his screen shot does say that but he was saying his stock VID on this particular card was .987 which tends to lead to higher headroom for overclock when the VID is lower because less voltage = less heat.

NC how does it stay so cool, do you have TONS of fans aiming at it on your open bench? cuz even the evga pic you showed me isn't that cool at 100% fan speed, and neither is my card.

interesting. Great clock by the way.

I'm just about to start running my OC trials for my 470; should I remove my 275 before I start the trials? Or should it not matter?

I should have kept my MSI 260 for folding/physx . Leave it in for OC trials.

So increasing clock rates is pretty straightforward, watching for artifacts and backing off as needed. But what about lowering voltage? Is it the same game of watching for artifacts, or can it effectively hose the card? Is there a point where the card will cease to function, or does it just fail at high loads?

I'm reaching 100C after a couple minutes with OC Scanner and Furmark. Fan ramps up to 92% and stays there. Seems like a lot of people are seeing better temps than this, even with higher clock rates. I don't want my card running at 80% or higher fan speed constantly - that's a big part of why I want to try lower voltage, to reduce temps.

Default voltage on my EVGA 480 SC is 1.062.
