You can have 100% CPU load and input devices would still work.... it's called priority.
Ya that's true. But it's not real cpu load. It's simply run away polling. I can get 2001 2002 everquest or everquest II code to pull 100 percent on one core of a 4 ghz i7 but it's not load. You throw in a cpu nice utility before loading and it will drop it down to a comatose sub 20 percent. 100 percent cpu load on a game is more than likely simply this runaway polling.

BC2 is able to utilize 60-80% on a 3.4GHz Quad-Core...

You have to find what works for your system i current have a bottleneck with my Q8300 & 9800gtx+ ( sli sometimes ). Q8300 @ 3.65 gives me lets say 28 avg fps in dirt 2 max settings 1920x1080 but if i clock to 3.38 i get 43 avg fps. I'm still testing to find out the maximum gain though, hope this helps .

Depends on the chip and the program. Personally, I notice no difference at all in FPS when I ran my chip at 2.75GHz, but doing so was running it at 1.7Vcore. I decided "Eh, eff it" and went back to stock.

I wouldn't say it's a gimmick, but I wouldn't say it's vital either.

Fixes BC2 wasting cpu cycles with polling. It actually barely uses 50 percent on a 2.6 ghz quad.

BC2 uses like 60-80% across the 1st 3 cores on my quad and like 90 or more on the 4th, according to Task manager. i keep it open on my 2nd monitor while playing the game.

I'm pretty sure when I went from a Dual core e8400 at 4.0 to a quad core i5 at 4.0 the cpu performance increase was huge. When i ran the quad at stock settings, with game settings on high, it ran better than the 4ghz dual on medium-high settings. all on the same GTX260 at stock speeds...

yeah I know cool story, I'm just saying they aren't gimmicks.

I mean a $1000 for a CPU? yeah a bit ridiculous, but bumping from a dual core to a quad that costs $200? TOTALLY worth the money spent. It made the game playable on High detail settings. I can't wait to drop in my 2nd GTX 260 and see what happens!
