15.6 inch vs 17.3 inch laptop

Thread Starter
Hello guys!
I need to choose from 2 laptops.
one has 15.6 inch and is from acer with a little lower specs than the Asus which has 17.3 and a resolution of 1600 x 900 with a LED display.

Would a 17.3 inch display laptop be really too big compared to a 15.6 ?

Is it really too much to get a 17.3 monster ?

17" lose a huge chunk of "portability"

i had a 17" for a while, its a pain to lug around, 15.6 is the way to go if you ask me

ive also owned 14.1, 16", 15.6", etc

but you really should be choosing based on proc/ram/GPU and not screen size

It's a fairly common sentiment that 17"s are a pain to lug around.

What are you planning on getting one for, what's the primary use? If it is school, and you plan on moving it often, then 17 will probably get annoying.

If it's just going to be around the house and other places occasionally, then 17" is not really a big deal.

One thing to think about is if you get a gaming laptop you will need a cooler to maintain performance and to keep your hands from sweating when gaming.

I own the ASUS G Series G51JX-A1 NoteBook Intel Core i7 720QM with 15.4 inch screen.
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g51jxa1-p-2724.html

its nice and portable comes with a razor mouse and a backpack. they will upgrade to 8gb for 19$. its a fast machine and have no problem running on high with bfbc2. I bought this one because of specs/price/and portability. it comes with a decent back pack that is sexy too.

if your looking for gaming, a 7200 is a plus, but the 320/325s are pretty weak, you would do better with a 9800 or a 4650/5650/260m/360m

C2D or i3 + 4650/5650 is a good combo for a budget light/mid gaming laptop (although "gaming" isnt really the way to put it, hence, LIGHT gaming)

that also STARTS @ $1500

it looks to me, by the specs he posted, that he is looking more in the $800 range

I have a 17" with 1680 x 1050, beautiful picture, but not good for travel at all.

I ended up getting a little 12" to use for travel and light use.

Ok well the primary use is for taking it at the university to do projects and stuff and yes i would carry it a lot.
So i guess that a 17.3 is a no go since most of you said it lacks portability.

Yep, you'll have a hard time with the size of that thing.

EDIT: Hmm, that's awkward, isn't it.
