Hi denny

Can you not get your brother in-law to make up a lead just to try it?
I have already researched that option and I can't get 50feet of HDMI. I'm told that the ethernet cable will do a great job carrying the signal (100 feet or better is ok) with no loss. The media box has an ethernet port in the back

aren't there hdmi extenders too?! theres an extender for almost all kinds of cables. and trust me on this one, there isn't moo many noticeable differences when it comes to the $20 hdmi cable and the $85 gold platted, servers you fried eggs and had hdmi cable.

gimmicks see.

Take my setup for example. I have a main (sig) rig for gaming and what not in my office. I have an HTPC in my living room with 1080p (100~) videos, along with SD videos (250~) stored on various hard drives. My HTPC also has a 2250 tuner card and a blu-ray drive. My bedroom has a 32" with an xbox360 connected to it. That Means if I were to hypothetically buy/rent/borrow/steal/find a blu-ray movie I could throw it in my computer and play it from the disk in the living room or rip it to my HTPC hard drive and play it (via network) on my office PC, my bedrooms 360, my laptop, or my iphone (via Orb). Is that what your looking to do?

I will look into the long HDMI cables and extenders as well. That was actually the first thing I researched awhile back. 30 feet was as long as I could find and I need 50. Running it accross the floor for 30 feet will get knots put on my head

agree the high $ cables are a gimmick

Pretty much--I wanna use this PC to gather the data--I will then put it on an external USB drive and physically carry/connect it to a media box.

In addition I want to hardwire the media box to my router so I can access the files on my PC to the TV. My understanding is I can use ethernet cable to accomplish this--correct?

Gotta go out for a bit, will check in when i get back

@ Damarious 25-----Now that is just the ticket sir. I have that page bookmarked and will certainly purchase a set of those babies. That was what I wanted to get for hardwire hookup all along--just thought 30 feet was the longest that could be bought. Thank you again and Rep+ to you and jlchavis

They do make them in 50 foot.
http://www.mycablemart.com/store/car..._detail&p=1215
I have read of people using them and they say that they have no problem at 50', but I wouldn't push it any further than that.

dennyb, you are right about AnyDVDHD. It will rip the desired files off of a Blu Ray disk just like AnyDVD will do on a DVD, but those files will be huge. Keep in mind that Blu Ray can hold 50gb of data without breaking a sweat. Cameron claims that the first (2D) release of Avatar takes up so much room on the disk that there will no extras. All extra features will be provided via BluDisk Live. Just the other day I read that Blu Ray has had a break through allowing up to 125 gb on one disk.

In other words, your gonna need more than AnyDVDHD to make digital back-ups of your Blu Rays. You're going to need something to compress them.

My Blu Ray back up files are 4gb in size. They still have 1080p resolution and play very clean.

I want to thank everyone who took time to respond and those who sent PMs with advice and links--what a great group of guys here at OCN.

So I learned in the process that I can send 1080P data to my TV without using a media box via a heavy duty 50ft HDMI cable. So It looks like I will be purchasing one and also subscribing to some websites that were recommended for acquiring data. I will also be purchasing a 1tb or larger hard drive to archive data on since I don't wish to archive on my Raid0 drives.

So thanks once again OCN members for all the help you have provided--it is very much appreciated

edit: HDMI cable ordered
