Oh, right! But how can you measure CPU load in a router?

+1 to SNMP, though most consumer routers don't support it.

Mine does though (thanks to DD-WRT)

Haha, offtopic, I just wrote an SNMP program for our firewalls at work smile.gif

Do you have the 2nd router on a long Ethernet cable and somewhere else for better range?

Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't it have to do with the fact that it won't be able to run at the Full 40MHZ band for Wireless since it has to scale down to the legacy G for older devices.
Similarly if you have a Wireless G Router and B clients.

My Source:
"Fix #3: Don't Connect Draft 11n and 11b/g clients to the same router

An 802.11n router can also work with 802.11g and even 11b devices. But these much slower devices force the router to slow down to talk to them, which means a big throughput hit. Fortunately, the "legacy" mechanisms are pretty efficient and reduce throughput only when the slower devices are actively transmitting or receiving.

As we showed in Add, Don't Replace When Upgrading to 802.11n, mixing 11n and "legacy" clients can reduce throughput by 50 to 80%. So if you are mixing old and new devices, you could be shooting yourself in the (throughput) foot. Either upgrade to all 11n clients, or use a separate 802.11g router to handle your "legacy" stuff."

I remember reading something about Mixied mode not utilizing N full speed. I forgot what it was since I read it quite a while ago, but it might be what you mentioned. I think thats one of the reasons I choose a G only router, besides having too many routers sitting around. Also I have noticed that the more things conntected to my main wireless router which is the only wireless router right now, it tends to heat up a lot more.

Off topic question... I tried to conntect my daugthers DS 3Dsto wireless and it said it didnt souport anything other than WEP? Is this true? If so I might have to set up one of my old G only routers for it frown.gif

If you have a custom firmware you should be able to view the CPU load, whether through something like 'uptime' or through SNMP.
Most stock firmwares on consumer grade equipment don't bother to tell you this info.
