Overclocking the PCI-e slot has zero impact on the actual graphics card, and benchmark results have shown performance increases to be in the low single digits, sometimes a tad higher, sometimes nothing, and even sometimes decreasing performance.

I would not recommend it as it can cause data corruption on your hard drives and you wouldn't even be aware it is happening. Overclocking the actual graphics card directly increases the speed of the GPU, memory, or shaders (whichever you overclock), is far less dangerous (no potential data loss), and has much more tangible performance boosts.
