New computer build

I am planning on building my first rig soon and would like some of you to look it over make sure i didn't miss anything and that every thing is compatible. i won't be buying online so the prices on tigerdirect won't be the same.

Asus P5ND2-SLI Nvida Socket 775 - $159
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...Tab=0&NoMapp=0
Is this a good Board for Overclocking. is it a good Board in general.

Intel P4 650 (3.4Ghz) 2MB L2 800FSB 775 HT with FAN - $355
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...208&CatId=1971

Maxtor 7200RPM 16Mb cache 300GB IDE- $145
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...?EdpNo=1487962

OR

Maxtor 7200RPM 16MB cache 300GB SATA- $155
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...4382&CatId=139

Which is Better IDE or SATA. if SATA is better will i see any difference in speed.

Themaltake Soprano VB1000 Black w/window w/o Power supply - $129
(this one but without the power supply)
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...389583&CatId=0

As For the Ram i'll Probably Go For a 1GB of Kingson Value Ram DDR2 1024MB PC4200 533Mhz. $105 then when i have enough money i'll buy 2GB of OCZ GOLD dual channel DDR2 PC5400 667Mhz
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...928&CatId=1554

The power supply i'm still not sure of i'm wanting to only spend $100CAN max. it should be 500w at least 30 amp on 12 rail or dual rails that add up to 30 at least.

How is this power supply
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...273337&CatId=0

Or

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...2010&CatId=106

The video card will be a GeForce fx5500 (which i already have) untill i have some more money to get a new one. i will probably get a 6800GS 256MB or better

Microsoft XP Home $99

I have the dvd-rw drive, cd-rw drive, floppy, Keboard, Mouse, Montior, speakers.

So i think thats all. Please tell me what you think and if everything is compatable as this is my first build and i want to make sure its all good together. i hope to see a huge difference in speed and in folding which i'm sure i will from the 2.8 celeron.

GUYS PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I AM IN CANADA AND THE PRICES ARE CANADIAN DOLLARS

I didn't see video cards listed, are you planning on running dual NVIDA video cards in full SLI in the future? I ask this as you have selected a motherboard designed exclusivly for this purpose.

There have been numerous fixes to this board for that chipset, not sure if they have all been worked out or not with BIOS updates and corrected drivers.

If that is a concern, or you have no desire to run dual video cards in SLI, that board might not be a good fit.

The board I just used in my build is a great overclocking board, can run dual NVIDIA cards in a limited SLI and supports dual ATI cards in full Crossfire. It's about $40 more, and be WARNED, it can only handle 2 ROM drives period, and if you want to use a IDE PATA hard drive to boot from, you can only have 1 ROM drive. The other 2 buses for PATA are for storage only, no optical drives and can not boot from them. If you go SATA (I do recomend it) you can boot from the SATA drive and still run 2 optical drives and more storage hard drives than you can fit in a case (4 more on the PATA bus and 3 additional SATA drives singly or in RAID 0,1,5, or 10). I have my issues with Maxtor......I would recomend Seagate or at least Western Digital.

930 3Ghz Presler Dual-Core

Almost the same price as the 650 Prescott, sure, it's a 3Ghz instead of the 3.4.......but considering so many people have gotten the 2.8Ghz Presler to 4Ghz......the 930 can easily make it. And dual-core is where it's at

PSu XION 600W Dual Rail

This is a nice PSU, stable power, variable fan speed.....

Dang, you're in Canada, can't order from Newegg......I know tiger has that PSU, but I think it's slightly more......

well i don't really want to go dual core yet mabee some build later. so with the board i selected i can run a SATA hard drive and 2 IDE optical drives right. i would like to some day get two video cards in SLI so i would like to get SLI MainBoard now then get the video cards later. i Probably won't be overclocking this untill mabee a year later so overclocking not that big of deal to me. thats a good power supply but i'm not really wanting to spend $150CAN on a power supply. i'll have to think about the power supply.

Well, I guess it would depend on your timeline for "someday". There's no reason to buy something that performs a function you won't use. But if you're gonna go SLI this year, then it could make sense.

Why don't you want to go dual core? Are you set on the clock speed of your CPU and don't want to spend for a 3.4Ghz dual core?

It looks like it has 2 Parellel buses for 4 devices, and 4 connections for SATA, so yeah, you can run 2 optical drives and a SATA HD. I don't have specific experience with that board, but the arrangment of the busses looks similar to mine (A blue one that is off the side and the other located normally on the board) so it's likely the second bus will function as my additional 2 do.....storage only. Not 100%, and won't affect you unless you ever want to boot from a PATA, but something to keep in mind.

ya i'll most likely get two video card In SLI this summer but i want to keep the door open to that option. as for the dual core the 930 3GHZ is $420CAN for me to buy it here. keep in mind that i'm not buying online. i'm not sure about the dual core would the 930 3Ghz be faster than the 650 3.4GHz. oh ya i'm 16 and don't have alot of money to buy the best of the best. i really only want to spend $350 to $380 on the processor but if the dual core 930 is lots better, i'm will to spend $420.

Oh, well, that does make things more difficult

Is the 930 better?

yeah, is it "faster", well, depends on what you do technically, but the most simplistic way to look at it is it's basically like having 2 CPUs.

Whether or not it's "worth" the money is a personal question really. the Conroe's will be out in July roughly, that may drop the price of the Preslers, or at the very least make them cheaper next year.........

I'm just saying, OCing can give you clock speed if that's vitally important to you (and besides there's more bragging rights to running a 2.8 chip at 3.4 than just buying a 3.4 ).......nothing can GIVE you 2 L2 caches at 2MB each.

Just my opinion

well i'll have to think about it i just may go for the 930 3GHZ. thanks for the help. Other opinions are welcome too. should i go for the 930 dual core 3Ghz or the P4 650 3.4Ghz

You may want to consider a Cedar Mill processor. They are the same as the 6X0, but they are 65nm instead of 90nm. That means better temps and OCs. Plus that means they are cheaper (weird huh, new tech = cheaper...)!
http://labs.anandtech.com/alllinks.php?pfilter=4206
Only $250 US for a 3.2Ghz 651...

I would do a Raptor harddrive for the same price as the Maxtor, much faster. I know it is less space, but it is well worth it.

I think i'm going to get the P4 651 3.4Ghz Cedar mill because its the same price as the 650. as for the raptors i might get them later down the road but right now the bugets too tight to get them becasue i'd have to also get a bigger hard drive with it for videos from my tv tuner.
