OFFICIAL:NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX/+ & GTS250 Owners Thread - Page 74

hi ,
if got a n00b question, I had a EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+, and i decided to add another one for SLi , so i got into eBay , and got another one by mistake i got the EVGA GeForce 9800 , (without the + ) , but as i understood they still can work in SLi , so i connected them , and everything is working , but the thing that bugs me is that i see every info app , 2 cards - 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+ - as one card , and the second one is Geforce 250 ,
now i don't really know if it's normal to see the 250 in setting when i don't own on of those ..

please help me understand if that normal for SLi , or something is buggy in my system..

- as you can imagine it's my first SLi setup , so i actually don't know what to expect.
thanks!

Both 250s gone, splurged on a great 450 deal on Craigslist
Looks like I'm taking permanent leave from this club!

hows the performance of that 450 compared to the 9800/250? any noticable difference?

Definitely. Video processing on vReveal seems to be somewhat faster with version 2.1 out, and I can now play Cities XL 2011 with SuperSampling on which makes all those trees look much better - and FPS is in 30s-60s, unlike the 20s or less the last time around. Not the best quality GTS 450 there is, but for $65, I'm not complaining. Much better!

Hi to all. I've already known overclock.net for a long time since I'm always looking for opinions/reviews about GPU cards throughout the net, but this is my very first post.

What I had is a Inno3D GeForce GTS250 Green edition bought at a local PC shop for PHp 4,000 (PHp = Philippine Peso), which is equal to $92. I bought it more than a week ago to replace my 3-yr old 8500GT (since I bought a Samsung PX2370 last december) but mainly on a thought that it might get sold out quickly because it's way cheaper than the Palit one (costs around Php 6,000, which is about $138) if I act too late, and fortunately I saved enough money to buy one that time. I saw 3 ATI Radeon GPU cards at a display where the GTS250 is placed, but I'm too reluctant on relying on ATI (well, Radeon cards are asgood as Nvidia's but I'm already comfortable with Nvidia's products).

8500GT served me well enough since 2008. Hell, even 3 of the 5 capacitors already popped out due to excessive heat, yet I still revived it by replacing all of the caps (including the 2 working ones) with brand new MOSFET caps of the same value. It's still working, and placed it on my other PC.

There's also a Palit GTX460 on display, too. But the retail price is way too beyond my reach. Hell, it was even more expensive than GTX260 when it first came out.

Most of the PC games I currently have are way too graphics-intensive for the 8500GT even when set to minimum settings at 800x600. Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4 and Race Driver GRID are barely playable with framerates of 25-40 at most on 800x600 res. The only games that can be handled well with the 8500GT are some online games I actively play, although at 1024x768 at most.

My gaming experience has changed after I installed the GTS250. Those 3 games I mentioned can be fully playable at 1920x1080 (which is the native resolution of PX2370) on high settings at 40-60fps at most, although no MSAA. Makes me wanna buy a copy of StarCraft II and Assassin's Creed.

I borrowed a copy of NBA 2k10 from a friend and tried it. I was kinda disappointed of the performance when set to high setting w/o MSAA. I get 18-23fps even at 1280x720, until I set it all to low but leaving the player detail on high that it reached 35-40fps at most. I'm beginning to think what went wrong, until I looked up on the system specs for NBA 2k10 from the official website. Based on the results, the only part that made NBA 2k10 bogged down was AMD Athlon X2 4800+ @ 2.5Ghz (I raised it to 3Ghz but still no luck). I guess I need to upgrade my processor.

Anyway, here are the pics of the video card and my not-so-fancy rig:

The GPU-Z and EVGA Precision screenshot:

Any ideas of how much I can overclock this card? Coz I've been doing some stability tests for a few days ever since I bought it, but I just can't get it past the clock/shader/memory speeds I've posted above without even a single bit of artifact seen on ATItool.

i would be a bit careful with overclocking this card because it looks like it only has a heatsink on the core and not on the ram and the other chips.

I see. Looks like I have to buy an aftermarket cooler then. How does AC Accelero Twin Turbo Pro sound? Or any better cooler you would recommend?
well any aftermarket cooler will be fine, just make sure there are chip coolers included like this: http://techreport.com/r.x/zalman-vf700s/memsinks.jpg
