I think maybe the prolonged gaming+high framerates maybe were too much for the card?
The PC shut down, a burning smell seemed to be coming from the card so i took it out and gave it a quick inspection, i didnt see any swollen capacitors... there are maybe some capacitors hidden underneath the plastic. but teh pc seems to be running fine now. I was using msi afterburner... I'll set the fan to run more aggressively.
Just playing Dice Poker, this Galaxy GTS 250 hits 87c w/ the fan @ 100%!!
Shouldn't be too much for the card as long as the fan is kicking in, dependant on how old the card is, replacing the TIM and a reseat may be in order.
In my old case, my GTS 250 with the Musashi+fan mod installed hit 90's on the "Create Character" Screen in Sims 3 (the missus loves that game).
In Afterburner, you should be able to create fan profiles, no matter the noise, if it hits a certain temp (like 80+), you really want the fan to top out at 100% to be safe.
Also, check around the MOSFET's for any scorch marks if you can see them, they're the only thing that'd really smell like that, the cards shut down at around 106c or so (or should).
Gonna add everyone that's posted, been very absent from duties and from the PC in general, sorry about that.
