Time to upgrade my 8 year old computer. Advice on a new build to last 8 years

I have built a few computers. Most recently a i5 for my friend. Ive been wanting to build myself a new pc for 2 years now, putting it off and off for long as possible. The time has come

Here is the details of my current pc.
Antec Lanboy (2002)
antec 350w ps (2002)
Maxtor 160gb HDD (2002)
MSI 7104 (2006)
Celeron 2.8? (2006)
VisionTek Radeon HD 2600 Pro AGP (2007)
P4 3.4 (max m/b can take) (2009)
Trancend 2gb DDR 400 (max m/b can take) (2009)
Windows 7 Home prem (2009)
Pioneer DVD burner
Dual Westinghouse 22" lcd's (2007)

The case has seen 2 systems. When i upgraded the m/b in 2006 i came from a AMD and i would like to go back to AMD. I recently maxed out the RAM and Processor. This bought about a year for me. And here the last month ive overclocked to 3.6 ghz. I hook it up to my 32" lcd to play blu ray movies it will play 720p movies just fine. IF everything is close down lol.

My plan, to build a pc that right now may not be top of the line. But ill have the option to overclock, or add ram, or replace the CPU to the max the m/b will take then oc all that if needed. From my pc im at now to a loww end quad core with 4gb ram will be amazing. Im ok with in 4 years adding ram, new processor and even video card upgrade, i do not want to do a full system build in 4 years tho. I do want a nice case/ powersupply/ m/b/ hdd/

Here is what i have so far:

Combo deal Case and Power Supply

Antec P183 Black

Antec CP-850

M/b and cpu combo:
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO
AMD Athalon II X4 2.9

WD Caviar Black 640gb 64 cache

Vision Tek 900301

Patirot G Series 4gb

All this with shipping is $846

I plan to use the oem cpu cooler as i will not oc for 6months to a year. at that time ill buy a good heatsink.

Im wondering if i should just spend the $40 more and get the m/b with the Phenom 3.2?? its in the combo deal with m/b also.

Also im wondering how that vid card is and ram. i just picked ram real quick.

Im planning to save $ for another month or 2, untill i find out the system ima build. Budget? 800-1200. but like i said i dont need the top of the line. i want a long term cpu that i can upgrade the ram/cpu/vid card in 4 years. to make it all last another 4 years. But if its just 40 diff between the 2 cpus i was talking about thats not bad. but a $149 vid card vs a $249, is different.

thanks for any help!! im sure all these build threads can become overwhelming at times. And suggestions for a long term pc that dont require spending $2,000 right now.

oh and i forgot to add what ill use it for.well school , gaming, hdmi support for videos (also i need a vid card with dual dvi and hdmi that has audio), and web browsing.

My rule of thumb is get the best that your budget can afford. If you have the extra $40, go ahead and get the new mobo and the phenom II x4. If not then the Althon II x4 will be more then enough. I personally think the build you have now is good for what your doing, Its a low buck computer that will be able to handle what you throw at it. I suggest a 5770 as a video card. Its an awesome midrange unit and it has IMHO the best scalable performance. Buy it now and then when you need more power, buy another and crossfire it and in most cases, you will have more performance then the top of the line card.

thanks for your help! and ya i might go for a phenom im undecided on that. i searched for the 5770 like you said i just dont know which brand to go with? and i see what your saying thats a good idea for the video cards.

What do you think about the m/b? i really want a m/b that's soild.
