I'm thinking about upgrading to the Phenom II 965 BE C3 Stepping. I'm curious if it would be a decent upgrade over my 3.7GHz X3 425. Any thoughts or opinions?

Hey guys. I just got my 435 a week ago and I've had some fantastic results with OCing. 3.7 Ghz at 1.5 Volts. However, if I enable the 4th core (I have a Biostar TA790GXE 128m), it does see it as a Phenom II x4 B35, No L3 cache, but 4 cores; the problem is that when I go to boot Windows 7, it freezes. No Matter what I've tried, it does this. I think I have an actual defective 4th core Anyone with the same motherboard have some success unlocking the 4th core and having Windows run?

Otherwise, getting 3.7 stable on a 2.9 ghz CPU....for $78....can't beat it!

Of course. They overclock to 3.8 easily, and are just awesome all-around.

Hi. I have the exact same motherboard as you. Have you tried lowering the HT to 1600mhz and raising the voltage a notch or two?

If it says B35 because it isn't a Deneb core, so it doesn't actually have L3 cache as far as I know. My Athlon II x3 425 unlocks to a X4 with the 6mb of cache and it says B25. Although the 4th isn't stable it does boot into Windows. So what I did was set the ACC to auto and the other option set as "Force Tri Core" which let me keep the cache. You can try that and see if there is any cache for you to unlock.

The IMC is rather crappy with these chips. If you guys are experiencing stability trouble, overclock your northbridge to about 2400MHz (leave the HT Link speed around 2000MHz). This will help stabilize the IMC, as well as give you performance gains. An increase in CPU-NB voltage would most likely be needed if you blue screen. Max 'safe' CPU-NB is 1.55v.

Are you just trying to increase post count or something? Your statement makes so sense. He's asking about unlocking his Athlon II X3...in the Athlon II X3 Club. Go figure.

Enabling the fourth core will limit your OC potential. Drop the clock down to 3.5GHz and try to unlock that extra core.

Mine won't even post after trying to unlock the 4th core, so I'm about 99% sure I was unlucky and just got a chip that has a bad 4th core. I've tried just about everything to get it to unlock and post!

I am able to get it to 3.7 stable though which is fine for now. I think I'm going to upgrade to a 965 BE 125w as the 435 bottlenecks my crossfired 5770's.
