Offical AMD Athlon II X3 Owners Club - Page 19

Hi, im new to the boards!

I got a X3 435 3 weeks ago and tried to unlock it without success.

When I finally installed the Xigmatek Cobra D984 cooler, I decided to give it a real shot.

I updated the BIOS to 0701 earlier today and it finally worked. I have now a Phenom II X4 B35 overclocked to 3.48GHz (14.5 x 240). No L3 CACHE though...which I found wierd because in CPU-Z it clearly states that I have a code name Deneb...

Is there any other way to unlock the L3 or am I just out of luck?

Thanks!

Congrats on the stable unlock my friend (it is stable right?)
Also, did updating the BIOS make the difference in the unlock? What was the problem on the stock cooler? Did it not boot into windows? I've got the same processor, OS, and PSU wattage as you. So it'd be interesting to compare. I'll be getting my aftermarket cooler this weekend.

Thanks!

I was on the BIOS version 0506 when I tried the first time and it didn't worked. But I found that it was best to disable Cool & Quiet before unlocking which I left enabled. When I updated the BIOS to 0701 yesterday and gave it a real shot, I disabled C&Q and it worked. So I don't know if it was why it didn't unlock on the 0506, maybe...

Concerning the stock HSF, I just played safe on this one. Unlocking the 4th core + OC is gonna heat up some more than a X3 on stock speed. So I made sure to have a good aftermarket HSF before doing anything stupid heheh.

Well I finally got the fourth core unlock.

I haven't tried to bench it yet to see how stable. I was just glad to get it unlocked and booting after trying forever to do it.

The funny thing is all I finally did was set the unlock core and raise the cpu voltage to 1.505v

BUT core temp and cpuz does not read the number of cores correct or temp. I have included a pic

Hi all,

I originally posted on this forum in November (http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/59...ml#post7653827) to get some advise on unlocking my Athlon II x3 425. I could unlock the 4th core but sometimes the comp would not boot up, or whenever it did, crash after after few hours.

I eventually gave up and decided to live life with a x3 overclocked to 3.1ghz. A month ago I decided to check for a bios update for my Asrock A780GM-LE/128 (to bios v1.20) and see if it would make any difference. Low and behold, the computer is now stable as a full fat 6mb Phenom II x4 and at the slightly overclocked 3.1ghz also. I believe the cpu would overclock further, but with the standard (noisy) heatsink and fan I thought it not worth the risk. All I did to get the cpu to unlock was put ACC on auto and the motherboard did the rest. The new bios also gave me the option of choosing the number of core activated (it was quite good fun to be running a Phenom II x1 for a while!).

So there you go. If you have one of those Asrock boards with a cpu that unlocked but wasn't stable, give the new bios a whirl and you might be suprised. Here is the cpu z confirmation:

Regards

I'll be getting mine Tuesday. And I am determined for 4Ghz. I don't care if I need to run over 1.55v 24/7. If the chip dies in 6 months...well o well. And I'll be doing a 965C4/Crosshair 4 build over summer anyways.
