Thought I finally had 3.8, but prime proved that not to be the case. I've been everywhere, tried everything possible, just not going to happen for me. Cranked to the gills I can get in and play the game @ 3.9/1.581, but can't begin to get a priming. Guess I'm good with just getting in at a gig over.

So stick a fork in me....I'm done. I've resigned myself to a 24/7 clock of 3.6@1.38

I'm very impressed with my X3 440. It runs very well and it easily overclocked to 3.6GHz at stock.

I haven't tried to see if I can unlock it, though. If that became a problem, it's one that I don't want at this time...

Are you planning on running 3.6GHz for 24/7 or 3.45 like in your sig?

Hi all,
This is the first machine I've ever attempted to OC. I'm approaching this with much FUD (fear, uncertainty, & doubt). I don't have the disposable cash to replaced burned out HW components.

My components are listed in my system build. I've maxed out my graphics card settings to 715 core / 650 memory. It seems to be running stable and smooth with little increased heat.

Before I continue, though, I need to know what folks think is a stable temp. Below is the output from CPUID HW Monitor. This system is a very simple stock build that I'm using to learn how to OC. Any suggestions that you have about safe temperature ranges would be helpful.

Thanks everyone.

I got a 440 at Fry's and put it into my build, replacing a 7850.
Overclocked it to 3.6GHz and got increased FPS on many games, Just Cause 2 is constant FPS instead of dipping down to the 10s, very happy with it.

The maximum operating temperature of the athlon x3 440 is 55-73 deg C Personally, I feel that keeping the cpu under 50 deg C for a 24/7 overclock is a good goal. My 440 runs 3.6GHz for 24/7 and usually peaks at around 42 deg Celsius under max load in Prime test. This guide is a great way to start overclocking, you will minimize any hardware damage if you follow it.

Thanks for the insight and the link. I'll get working on my OC straight-away.
