I looked again, and I'm running 240Mhz for the FSB and a 15 multiplier = 3.600Ghz. My NB is running at 2400Mhz, but I've got the memory clocked down a step to 1280Mhz. Vcore is at 1.45v and the NB is at 1.25v.

Unlocking the 4th core was as simple as setting ACC to Enabled.

A lot of people find success when they bring down NB a bit. Try that, see what happens. Won't hurt performance the slightest bit from what I hear.

Apparently an OC'd NB actually does add a good bit of snappy to the system.

jk. kinda.

Unlocking 4th core will net much bigger gains than any overclocking will, so I would say don't bother trying to see what locked core overclocks you can get unless your curious.

Yeah I fail and didn't realize that...
Just saw Athlon II X3 and was like hey I have one!
and meh about the Rich part...

I only paid $120 for my CPU and that was almost 2 years ago now tongue.gif

Wonder if it would be worth it to get a new CPU heh.

Guess I'll like uh leave this thread...

Oh, and I decided to stick with 4th core unlocked at 3.6ghz running fine and stable there.

Whaat, he's got 3.6 on a 450, and at 1.45 to boot - that's pretty damn good from what I understand.

Nb does help system performance, just do a search on cpu-nb benchmarks. It's not as great as CPU obviously, but it's the 2nd best thing to overclock on your system - it's actually worthwhile to overclock, as opposed to RAM or HT link speed which you will never notice, ever, even with 1ghz differences.

i was just joking TwiggLe, I think it's relevant what you're saying. Rich is reserved for those intel *******s!

Anyways pretty nice results. It's interesting because I spent roughly $50 on cooling and overclocking, meaning that was a smart decision considering its 3.2 X3 OC to 3.5 X4 on very low temps vs 3.2ghz Phenom X3 w/l3 cache (meaning 1 less core for roughly same speed since l3 is about .2 to .3ghz in speed bost).

Like I said, just "a bit". Like to the point where you're only losing 1-5 fps in game benchmarks but gaining 10 fps overclocking the CPU further. I'm not talking about like cutting it in half or anything.

I'll google around some later but I kinda remember there being substantial improvement only up to a certain point. After that it's minor. And then they were finding that the CPU could go faster bringing the NB back down a bit.

My 445 is a denab chip with a failed 4th core but unlocked L3 cache... Not too bad but I think I would have liked a 4th core better than a L3 cache for my needs but something is better than nothing tongue.gif
