J-Ro, there's nothing in my bios that really stands out as really unique or such. I didn't need to drop HT link or NB frequency to 1600 as Belial suggested. I just simply increased FSB while upping voltages when I needed to. If you want a specific setting let me know!

Next Monday, UPS willing, I'll be putting together a Athlon II X3 450 on a Biostar A880G+, G.SKILL 1333 F3-10600CL9D-4GBPK. Will be using a smallish mid tower case with a 120mm side exhaust and 90mm rear, and I'm wondering if the stock CPU fan will be OK for general purposes, or would it be reasonable to use a leftover fansink from my Phenom II X4 965?(replaced it with a Corsair H50) It looks to be beefier than the picture of the stock X3 fansink(X3 fansink has no heatpipes).

What I'm after is a quieter CPU fan. The Phenom fansink on the 965 seemed to run all the time at mid speed or more and is quite audible, which is why I replaced it in the first place. Can I expect the same problem with the Athlon X3 fansink? I wonder if the Phenom fansink running on the Ahtlon X3 will stay quieter.. Not interested in buying another new fan.

The stock fan is fine in terms of noise so long as that board has fan control settings. Otherwise it runs at full speed and is pretty loud.

The board specs say it supports Cool N' Quiet, so I suppose that'll keep the revs down. I wonder if the Phenom stock fansink is a lttle or a lot better than the Athlon X3 stock fansink in terms of noise.. I guess we'll see.. Maybe have to pick up another H50 :-) Still $60 at Best Buy.

That's where I got mine, too. Went in to pick up a CoolerMaster 212+, which their website said were in stock for ~$30. They didn't have any, and I talked myself into the H50 instead.

I was going up to 49-52c just surfing with the stock cooler. The H50 keeps things at 49C even when Prime95 for 30 minutes. Typical full screen video streaming stays around 43C and America's Army runs at 20fps and 45C.

Not unhappy.

Ambient temp? Even at 4.2 GHz and intelburntest, my core temps don't go above 34C on my hyper212.

I've just realized that I can probably go higher, I kept my ram at "auto" and my mobo was setting it to 1333MHz @ 7-7-7-18. I've lowered the timings back to stock (9-9-9-24) and seems to be able to do about 10 passes of IBT at 4.2GHz. The memory was causing instability!

Still no luck with the fourth core, I'm giving up on it.
