Offical AMD Athlon II X3 Owners Club - Page 53

Hi all posted this on the 4ghz+ club before I realised there was one specifically for athlon II x3's doh.gif

now using the magic that is copy and paste we have....

Has anyone ever hit 4ghz stable on air with and unlocked athlon II x3 450 (x4 b50)?
as I have just got to the 4ghz mark and i am running stability tests as we speak biggrin.gif

I am a tad worried about my mosfets as my board has stupid 4+1 power phase and to top it off they weren't even heat sinked. so i am using zoleman copper heatsinks for now...hoping they do the job.

And no, that's false. Maybe you should look up some benchmarks on this. A processors FLOP/s does not scale with its IOP/s.

If processor A has performs 3 times as many FLOP/s as processor B, but they use a program that doesn't use FLOP/s, it isn't going to outperform. That's my point. FLOP/s doesn't mean anything in real world usage (except folding).

He already has 3 cores, that's enough to run your OS + misc apps like Skype in the background and the dual core optimized game. The extra core won't do anything unless you're doing some mad multitasking or using programs that take advantage of 4 cores (which he isn't). TomsHardware published an article about this a while ago. Regardless, if he starts playing quad core optimized games, he can just switch over to his quad setting.

In the games and apps you use, the x3 setting will be slightly faster.

Regarding bottleneck, it depends on the game. Something like Left 4 Dead/other Source-engine games are very processor-intensive, and very light on the GPU (I could max it out at 1080p no problem with an HD4850), so the bottleneck will almost always be on the CPU in that case, versus say, Crysis, which is GPU-intensive.

But there will always be something bottlenecking something else in your system. Your rig is pretty balanced, don't worry about it.

And you can either bring up Task Manager while using your program and see if all your cores are being used equally, or if the usage is very uneven (80% on one core with ~20% on the rest is pretty indicative of a game that doesn't support many cores), or you can look up benchmarks using the games/apps you want to know about. If the game performs about the same with 2 or 3 cores versus 4, then it isn't quad-core optimized.

Here's 2 benchmark charts, first one is a program that takes advantage of 4 cores, second one is one that doesn't (this also helps show Ronnin that GFLOP/s don't translate to real world performance):

CPU%20Cores%20-%20Sandra%20Arithmetic.png

CPU%20Cores%20-%20Crysis.png

As you can see, the first one scales as more cores are added, while Crysis (as with most games and many apps) only takes advantage of 1-2 cores (the performance boost from going to 3 cores is from offloading the OS/background apps onto the third core)

thought I'd add fuel to the fire. Ran my X3 @ 4.35GHz(which is totally stable)
compared to a Phenom II X4 @ 3.2GHz
Athlon II X3 @ 4.54 GHz
Stock X3 @ 3.2 GHz

A perfect CPU for 80% of the population, I might add wink.gif

Hello everyone!

Motherboard:Gigabyte 870A-UD3
I got an Atholon x3 450 and unlocked to Phenom x4b50.
I have oc ut to 3.7 Mhz ( 14.5 x 256) Ht link is on 2048Mhz( 8 i belive) Nb Freq. on 2048Mhz as well.
Ram is :Corsair xms3 1333MHz 2x2GB v3.13 whit DRAM 682,7, fsb:dram 3:8( can someone explain what this means?) 9,9,9,24,34,2t whit normal voltage.
Cooling: Antec Kuhler H2O 620

cpu voltage is on 1,536v ( It is an other voltage in the bios witch is also conected to the cpu, can someone please explain?cpu nb voltage or something like that.)

Is someone here fammiliar whit bouth my motherboard and cpu, do you got any tips? I got the latest bios drivers and i think the temp reading is right. Prime
95 torture test 4 hours gave maks 32 degress celcius. Is it safe to rise the cpu volt to lets say 1.6 if the temprature stays below 50 degrees? I mean, ofcourse it will
loose some life time, perhaps a lot, but a cpu lives for 10 years + whit normal use, right?, so if taking 60-70% of the lifetime away means it lives for 3-5 years can give
you an 4 core 4-4.1-4.2 GHz prosessor for 3-5 years at that price, i think its a pritty good deal.

So can anyone give me some advice about max voltage given my view on the matter? I mean, dont throw things that you have "figured out" your self, but
if someone actualy know what they are talking about, either from experience on this motherboard, cpu and ram og by education!

And last, what is tmpin0, 1 and 2? My tempratur there is 25, 46, 79 at the moment, 4+ hours in stresstest, but it says it has had a max on 96, 96, 96? What does this means? Do it want spirit perhaps?
Thanks in advance!

I was able to boot 4.4 at that voltage but couldnt get it to validate before crashing:(
Although I think if I did some northbridge tweaking and took out my crappy corsair ram and just ran my gskill i could probablly get it to run close to 4.5

You are running 1.55 24/7? 3 or 4 cores? I have unlocked the 4th core, can i safely send 1.55 v 24/7 on an x4 b50 prospurs version(original x3 450 rana)?
and raising it to 1.6, will that kill the cpu in a matter of months or years? 24/7 usages. If the temprature stays below 50... any who has done that, sendt 1.6 voltage 24/7? Has anyone actually fired their athlon x3 350?

What are the voltage on cpu nb??
Or max temperature on phenom b50, is it same as the 3th core version it converted from? Keeping lower temperatures, do that counter the effekt of a higher cpu voltage?

NOOB NEED HELP!!
