Damn, looking at this thread, it's obvious I've been doing it wrong.
My Athlon II X3 440 can only pull 4 cores at 3.4ghz..... of course that's on STOCK cooling... should it get better?

My 4th core is crap too, even at 1.55v it still locks up the same place when loading Windows (100% bad core). Tho I can't complain the processor is running at stock clocks currently on 1.25v. And with the stock heatsink 20c idle and 36c full load.

^ If you are having trouble with unlocking, try lowering your HT link speed to 1.6ghz. No athlon will unlock with HT link speed above 1.6ghz (so be aware of this if you decide to mess with your FSB).
I believe I posted about this in this thread years ago when I first got my athlon ii and was struggling to unlock/overclock.
I had to look deep into the internet to find this;
http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=45;t=000669
Your problems sounds exactly like mine when I didn't know what I was doing either. I mean it's possible your CPU won't unlock but I think it will.

^ my guess is that it has something to do with your motherboard then.
anyways, has anyone gotten above a 3.4ghz overclock on their athlon ii x3 when it was unlocked?
has anyone tinkered around with ACC? I get mixed stuff from what i've searched, either the athlon ii 'automatically' has it already inside the chip, or it can be used to help overclock more (by down/overclocking certain problem/awesome cores), so I think that might be helpful, given that a lot of people are saying 3.6+ on 3 cores and only 3.4 or less with 4.
I still think this is a pretty awesome cpu. I've been able to stream 720p gameplay with it, sc2 no less.
When i first made my pc like 2+ years ago, I spent like a month doing nothing, no games, just overclocking and tinkering and finetuning. I'm at 1.488v (generally it runs much lower though due to powernow!/cnc and such) and ive never gotten above 35*C (lots of fans and cm 212+). Even though even with 1.6v vcore i didnt even get 20mhz more, I'm thinking of going like '**** it' and just setting vcore to 1.6, cpunb an extra few volts from 1.14v to like 1.3, and maybe .1v more to my chipset just in case for stability.
and a quick question but - do you want to raise your cpunb as high as possible? or is it supposed to be like some value that's dependent on clock speed? because i'm at 3.41ghz/2.5ghz CPUNB and that seems a bit high. i thought more was better with cpunb. im not really sure on this though...
I got 4141 as my passmark though. that puts this a good 1k points above a stock athlon ii x3 450...

Sorry, this didn't come up in my subscriptions for some reason. Either that or it got pushed down quickly by my other ones.
It was researched awhile back that some boards are more successful than others.
It was also common that 4 cores maximum OC always came less than the max for 3 cores.
For me I was able to get 3.8 on 3 cores, 3.6 on 4. The chip is currently being used by my family with 4 cores at 3.5ghz and hasn't had a problem for months 24/7 usage. I can't remember the voltage it's at though.
