you could also try 245x11 HTT x4 and run the ram on a divider 166 or 180...

It depends on the processor as well. I moved to the opteron as it was not easy to find dual core stability at 2.7+ Ghz and low voltages.

This is the number one reason I made the transition to the opteron as they handle lower voltages and can make a somewhat higher overclock. I can get a higher overclock but the voltage necessary to get there is not worth the increase of speed. The sweet spot for the processor is where it is all about and they are not all created equal. Even processors from the same fp batch are different on the overclock.

Stability is more important than high clocks or at least this is my impression. If I had that processor with that voltage necessary to make 2.6 and considering the cooler I would not move higher. I would clean the heatsink and reapply some good thermal paste to see if the posibility is too much paste or a poor application. Just a rice sized piece in the middle of the processor.

Make sure you're getting enough of the cooler room air into your case. If your case has little/no airflow, your ambient temp can be be 10*C and it won't help you much. To test, grab a normal desk/room fan and put it facing into your case, with at least the left door off, preferably both off. Then run your comp and see how your temps are. If you have lower temps, bad airflow is the culprit. Invest in some case fans and set them up for good airflow in your case. If the big fan doesn't lower your temps, try re-seating your HSF.

Also, when did you put on the new HSF? Because AS5 usually takes about a week to "cure". I noticed a 5*C drop after the week period was up. While curing, make sure your computer isn't on all the time, AS5 cures better if it has lots of cooldowns and heatups.

If a higher overclock means that much to you, perhaps sell the Zalman and replace it with the Big Typhoon and a slightly higher cfm fan.

Thread Starter
Well thanks for you effort to help me guys but i seriously give up on this overclocking business..... I spent over 2 grand on my rig, this motherboard costed me 270 when it was new and its suppose to be one of the best motherboards out right now especailly for overclocking but i seriously hate it. I've had so much problem with this thing that i can't explain it all to u in one post. People have been able to clock the 4400 to 2.8ghz at 1.45 to 1.5 volts and i cant even get this damn thing to run stable at 2.65ghz with 1.62 volts..... I spent 70 bucks on a new hs/f just to clock .1ghz more..... I tried 2.7 with a voltage of 1.62ghz and my motherboard just totally shut its functions down on me. I couldnt even enter the bios so i thought i was skrewed. So i had to take the battery out and reset the jumper on the motherboard. I'm just gonna leave it on 2.6ghz until a new AMD quad core comes out lol. I was thinking about taking it to water cooling but then i thought eh better not because i already spent 70 bucks on the best zalman hs/f and if i get water cooling i'm afraid of leakage and i have to mount the damn tank in the back of my case. But thanks anyways guys...

My ram settings is 183 and fbs is 237 at 11 multiplier. I dont have an HTT on my mohterboard to set so i dont deal with that. I'm still confused as to why my cpu is still running hot while at 1.52 volts. If it makes a difference, my cpu was at the same temperature as right now when it was 1.42 volts so i was able to up .1 volts. Any other suggestions guys? BTW i have the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Case which has a big fans. Do you guys think I should change my multiplier to 10 and up my fbs some more and see if that makes a difference?
My but you don;t have HT frequency.....It's on the CPU configuration page. It is prolly set to auto. To get higher, drop it down to 1x

You should be able to get to 2.75 no problem with that HSF. vCore at 1.55 (actually, you set it at 1.5, and most asus mobos run it at 1.55).

Ram timings:

Set ram on a divider. Really low. Then make ur timings....lets go with 2-3-3-7. Tell me how it goes.

I have had exactly the same problem and I'm pretty sure that it's due to the rubbish motherboard. I too wish I had never bought this Asus and gone with the DFI Lanparty. I can't get my 4400+ past 245 FSB and I currently run my PC at 260 x 10 (DDR 217)
