ram for san diego 3700 and abit kn8 sli mb

Thread Starter
right now i just have 2x512 of corsair value ram and was looking to get rid of that and upgrade to 2gb. i think thats what holding me back in games like FEAR and bf2. and also, from what i hear i dont want to go 4x512 bc running it in 2T would just slow me down.

anybody got any recommendations for 2gb of some good ram that isnt too terribly expensive?

ps-anybody want to buy 2x512 of cosair value ram that hasnt been oc'd and have only been used about a month?

In reality, 2T timings will only slow you down about 3 or 4% in real world apps. It is a bit more stress on the IMC, but I've run 4 sticks of ram and it didn't affect anything.
If you do want some 1GB sticks then G Skill make some decent ram at affordable prices. Both the ZX and HZ brands are about the same price. The ZX has tight timings at DDR400 and the HZ can do 3-4-4-8 at DDR500.

so, say for bf2 or FEAR just buying 2 more sticks of the 512 would probably be equivalent to 2x1gb? or, close enough to not make much of a difference

sorta yes.... but it will stress your memory controller and i rthink it would loose a little more performance than just 3-4%.... you would still wanna get the 2x1gb sticks for better performace, and the gskill will have tighter timings than your value ram...

Here's a thread about it: http://www.overclock.net/amd-memory/...ate-there.html
NCSA suggests that there is only about a 2 or 3% difference in real world apps.
In synthetic benchmarks, however, the 1T timings are a necessity. Depends on what apps you're going to be running on your PC. Game wise, I'd be very surprised to see any significant diference in FPS between 1T and 2T unless running older games or at very low resolution when the bottleneck switches from the GFX.

Also, do you have any evidence that running 4 sticks will adversly affect your overclock? I've run 4 sticks and 2 sticks and my overclock has been identical on the CPU. Personally, I found the real deficit came when moving from 1 stick to 2 sticks. Anything after 2 sticks didn't make any difference.
