More inovative games?

Here's something I've started to notice. There are a bunch of sport games released for the 360 which are almost identical to the later gen consoles with the significant differences being high def and a higher price tag so even the reviewers are saying that it's not enough to warrant a purchase if you the game allready. So far there hasnt been any extraordinary game for the 360. Dead or Alive looked really good, but not really anything new.

I'm disapointed at this "new generation" of games. It's the same old gameplay in high defenition. I really hope sony or nintendo can bring something new to the table. God of War was a good move and shadow of the collosus is original. I think the developers need to realize that better graphics need to be followed by better gameplay. I want more open ended games with more choice, more interaction, and less of the tired gameplay cliches. I'm so tired of saving the world. Anyone feel the same way?

I really want to see how the revolution controller plays out, because it shows that nintendo realizes that there's a problem and is adressing it.

i agree the games really havent changed since the PS1 and N64 just better graphics...but same story line.Off subject... What about Donkey Kong for Snes that was the ****!!

Ok we see the good graphics, now lets get some good games to support it

Only new thing is the online capabilities.... i think thats really the only thing the new consoles are going to focus on. After Xbox got LIVE going ... of course the other companies are going to counter act it with online gameplay of some sort.Only game im looking forward to in the new systems (Ps3) is the remake of FF7. its going to be L33T

You're exactly right gamer7, and that's the main reason I'm not overly excited about this next generation of consoles. Neither the X360 or PS3 are bringing anything new to the table, just more horsepower under the hood. Which is certainly needed, time has left the XBox and PS2 in the dust. But if all the new consoles offer is more raw power, game publishers are not going to deviate from their safe approach of releasing the same games over and over again.

Hopefully the Revolution will start to buck the trend. But Nintendo's first party games are going to have to do well to prove to the publishers that "weird", non-traditional games can make money as well as Madden 200x. We'll see, I suppose.

There's so many ways to make games better. For example you could use the eyetoy to make hand signs to cast spells. Nntendo's controller has tons of potential. But even with the gamepad you can get innovative. They could make the minigames more subtle so that more actions are realistic. Instead of using x to open a door and watching the animation, you could use one stick to slowly open it and the other one to peer in or you could uses the stick to reload your shotgun. The thing with nintendo's controller is that it will be standard so more people will have it and it's bound to be something really cool done to it.

And what's will all games making you play the good guy? Or if they give you a choice there has to be a reason for the character to be bad. Do a game like dungeon keeper, where you're just plain bad. For example I want to play as Ares from God of War and get to destroy Athens, and not even have to worry about dying, make up some of motivating me play as good as I can. Make a game like rampage where the only goal is to wreck stuff.

Why do you always have to be playing against the odds? Why can't the player have the upper hand? I want to play the guy in charge of the base while sam fisher is trying to break in. The ai could be so good that they could even outsmart you.

Make another game like Shenmue but even more expansive and open ended. Half the fun in that game was doing everyday tasks.

And get rid of the health bars. Use a heartbeat monitor in fighting games and make it obvious when players are gamaged, make it possible to break and arm or leg and keep fighting.

Just some ideas.

well u have all great points, but some of the things you mention are very very complex to have in a game...and will take enourmouse amounts of space to have a game installed on.... like 15Gb minimum.... where are we gonna get space for that on a console?... then all these complex contols, what are you gonna do in an intesne fight seen or something, youll be too busy trying to open a door quickly and wont be able to shoot the guy or something...these games will all be out when the Matrix type technology hits the public... i was watchin this show on discovery talkin abou the development of cybornetics and connecting the human brain to a computer interface, and they said we should be seeing it out in use by 2020

You make some excellent points gamer7, but so long as people keep buying into the model that better graphics make a better game, innovation will continue to stagnate and all that will come about are cheesy little extras in games (look at how much Madden changes from year to year... it gets some slight graphical improvements, updated players, and some new voice commentary... there is so much more that can be done). Sadly, those looking for something more really can't do much other than support games and developer who go the extra step. Speaking of which...pardon me... my DS is calling

Man I'm looking forward to that. Even though there's bound to be problems with that and people who don't think it's right.

But you said that these things are impossible to do on the next gen consoles? I mean everything I said there seems like it can be done. With the ai being focused on just one character I think you can make him pretty intelligent and do things the player won't suspect. Everything else seems pretty doable. The idea of playing a bad guy could be done on the ps2.

I think developers need to stop looking at other games and using the same structure like linear missions and levels. There's just so much you can do differently, especially now with the new hardware, that it seems like a crime to stick to the same formula.

I think they're starting to realize it though. Resident Evil 4 threw out the idea of what the series is supposed to be and look at how good the game is.

to vulcan:

I remember seeing something about nintendo thinking about a musical game in which you use the controller to conduct music and such, and I think thats a really great move, it will have musicians and just regular people alike to play the game because well, if youre like me and a musician, then that would be an awesome game to play.

Im not really all for the ps3 or 360, im waiting for the rev to come out, cause I think its gonna be less boring.
