Just got Z5500 - A few questions

Hey guys,
Just got the Z5500s. They are sweet as hell. Just a great deal for the price. Only thing is I am using onboard sound(for now - will be getting the Xtrememusic card soon). The onboard sound I have is the one that comes with nForce3-250Gb Chipset. Look below for my other spaces. I have a few questions...

1.) If I get the Xtrememusic card, would it allow me to have a larger maximum volume level?
2.) At first when I hooked up the speakers I was only able to get the 2 rear speaker and the sub to work. I changed my connection in the back from Side R/L to Front R/L and I am now getting my front speakers to work as well. I ran the test that comes with the system and I heard pink noise from each speaker so I know everything is hooked up right now. THe one thing I don't get is that when I am listening to music, I don't hear anything comming from the center channel. Do you know why?
3.) If a certain signal is not 5.1, just 2.1 isn't it true that all speakers will play the same sounds or do some speakers stay silent?

Thanks for your help.

1)No
2)If you listen to stereo music it will only come through the L/R speakers or maybe the front and rear L/Rs but the center should stay silent, my z5300e speakers have a matrix mode that plays stereo through all 6 speakers so look for that option.

1) no, but you will have many more sound enhancement options and much greater sound quality...
2)ya most 5.1/6.1/7.1 systems somewhere, whether in software options or on the speaker system itself there is a "music" option, or something simialr that just play the sound through all speakers in stereo mode...

So what makes the center play? Anything that is true 5.1?

Thanks!, the PLII Music setting allows all 6 speakers to play. Wow, another 62 Watts makes a huge difference. I tried a DVD, it says it is recorded in Dolby Digital 2.0, I guess no 5.1 sound from that?

Oh BTW, my sub is on the carpet and as I walked over to it, I picked up some static charge and I touched the heat sink of the amp and it discharged. Would this damage anything? My sub and all speakers seem to be playing fine and there was no interuption of play.

A rep for your help pbasil1

if it discharged on the amps cooling coiles it should be fine, that is considered a ground... so it should be fine. and do you know much about speaker placement for best/optimal sound? carpet reall obsorbs bass... but u prolly cant do anything about that, but maybe plcing it in a corner of the room opposite of where your pc is might sound better, just give it a try and see...

good luck man with it all

okay, for number 2, push the EFFECT option and scroll to the PLII Music. that will stereo audio (like most music) in all 5 speakers.

however, and this answers number 3, turning the effect to stereo x2 is MUCH louder and more clear than PLII Music, even though the center channel does not turn on (it sends the stereo signal to the back speakers, so 4 are being used). This same idea is true for all 2.1 audio. leaving the Z5500 on 6 channel direct will leave some speakers silent. setting it to stereo x2 will play in 4, and PLII music will play through all 5, but it sounds kinda weird (to me anyway)

so, play some music and try out stereo x2 and PLII music to find which you like best

EDIT: aw damn, took too long to type it and someone else posted it, haha
