There is a sound booster on the z-5500s, keep turning the volume up and it will boost 3 times I think.

good luck man with it all
If not on the floor, what would be the ideal placement of the sub? I can't put it on a desk since it would rattle off. I am thinking I might put the sub on a board that will be covered with thin cloth and on the floor. Right now I am planning on putting my sub next to my desk on the floor, about 2 feet away. The sub would have a wall on the left side and my desk on the right.

I think I know a little about the placement of the speakers, but let me know what you think. I don't plan on having stands for the speakers and don't plan on wall mounting them. I have a fairly big flat desk, so i am using them on that. I have the speakers like this now(look below), where - is the left front, center channel, and right fronts from left to right and the / are the rear left and rear right respectively. My monitor is an LCD, so I can't put the center channel on that. I have the center channel facing up. My desk is like 60 inches long and about 30 inches wide. I am open to suggestions.

however, and this answers number 3, turning the effect to stereo x2 is MUCH louder and more clear than PLII Music, even though the center channel does not turn on (it sends the stereo signal to the back speakers, so 4 are being used). This same idea is true for all 2.1 audio. leaving the Z5500 on 6 channel direct will leave some speakers silent. setting it to stereo x2 will play in 4, and PLII music will play through all 5, but it sounds kinda weird (to me anyway)

so, play some music and try out stereo x2 and PLII music to find which you like best

EDIT: aw damn, took too long to type it and someone else posted it, haha

Thanks, your post was helpful. I feel that with PLII the sound stage seems smaller, focused toward the center more. With x2, the stage seems wider but still great imaging(music comming from middle but middle speaker not playing). I too at this point seem to like x2 more.

Hey man,

We are like totally brothers, we have the same amazing speakers. I am thouroughly satisfied with mine. For optimal speaker placement for TRUE stero sound from your front speakers, left and right satellites must be at least 6 ft away from eachother. If they are too close together, the environmental sound will be pointless because they will all sound like something is coming from the middle of the sound field. No duh! Haha rear speaker placement is up to you. Since satallites are so sensitive with the whole aiming thing, make sure that they are aimed at your head from the rear. Speaker stands would be a massive plus. Anything else?

Hey man I agree! Nice talking with you.

Yeah, I have had these speakers for a few days and I just love them. They are very neutral sounding and can handle playing anything. I am testing them on every kind of music I can find, from Hiphop to trance to Metallica. They sound amazing. I am very happy with my purchase.
6 ft from each other? That would be impossible in my current setup, I have them all on my desk. Maybe I can do stands some time. Would stands make a significant difference?
My only complaint with the speakers is that the wire from the control unit to the sub should have been longer. Especially since they reccomend you put the sub at least 2 ft away from any electronic device.
All the speaker wires can be changed which is very nice. Some day when I get the time I will probably change the wires to higher grade speaker wires. Maybe kimber kable.
Anybody else have any other sugggestions to make the system sound even better?
