You can't "wipe" a bios chip because the computer wouldn't even start, you can flash an update but I doubt that is his problem anyway, Like I said it has happened to me a couple of times and kill disk has done the trick. it is also hard to go back to an old OS say like from XP to 98, even though you boot from the CD it will not take the setup program.
