[MSUPDATE KB980408]Warning To All Win7 x64 Users.

Thread Starter
Installing this update on Windows 7 X64 Will cause Folder Renaming Problems.

This exactly what happens.

Quote:
If I try to rename any folder in my system, I get "Could not find this item" with the choices "Try Again" and "Cancel". When I click "Try Again", it always succeeds. So - my system isn't crippled - but it is so totally annoying. I can even right-click on my desktop, and choose "New... Folder" and type in a name, and I get "Could not find this item". The interesting thing is that the item's name does change even before I click "Try Again".

If I have a folder named "Folder1" and I rename it to "Folder2", I get the error that "Folder1" Could not be found - which is actually true, as it is already renamed to "Folder2".
I ended up reinstalling my OS.

Problem solved, then I updated But before updating I created a system restore point.

Boom my problem recurred again.

So I uninstalled ALL updates. Rebooted. Did a system restore point that I created. Boom Problem gone.

So I googled New MS Update.

I came across this link here.
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r241...-today-4272010
Hit CTRL + f, typed in rename, took me down to a description [KB980408] "7th post down".

I read it, instantly knew it was that one update.

So I am still at my restore system point, decide to install all updates except this new one"KB980408".

No problems + my system started up a alot faster with out it!

Be cautious and create a system restore point before installing MS Update.

I hope I may get the word out before this happens to another person, it will save a lot of time.
GoodEnough.

Weird, I don't have that problem, and I rebooted this morning to install that exact update.

I haven't had Windows updates turned on in the longest time. I used to have BSoDs from bad updates every so often on Vista, and I'm not taking that chance with Windows 7.
