Well it could be the update conflicting with some software or hardware.

I too didn't experience this problem after rebooting this morning.

The thing is updates don't affect everyone the same way. As I sad in my earlier post, I used to get BSoDs from certain updates under Vista, but obviously not everyone had the same crashes from the same updates as I did.

I was worried for a bit when I found this as "installed" in my update history, however it hasn't affected my system as it has affected yours. I'll be on the lookout for such updates, though.

Yeah I just checked right now, everything is fine for me as well.

Edit: I see some people mentioning SP1, was this update indeed SP1? Or are the people who have it, getting it from the leaked version that got leaked a little while ago?

1º) Install KB980408 normally

2º) Delete* the following registry entries:

I'm from Spain and i Installed the horrible update from Microsoft.

I have the same problem that JeevusCompact.

In my Windows 7 x64 spanish.

I wait a solution from M$.
