Max Safe Vcore for FX60?

Hey fellas, I'm fairly new to overclocking, however, I've been doing a lot of research on it and I'm educated myself rather well I'd say.

The rig in my sig is now running at 3022Mhz stable with ram at like 177Mhz 2.5,3,3,7.

Anyway, my mult is 13.5 and HTT at 223Mhz. I've had it as high as 225 but that's where it starts to get unstable. I know lots of peeps have had a hard time breaking 3Ghz on the FX60. Dunno why.

I'm also aircooled with arctic silver on a thermalright si-120 with a panaflo 116cfm fan.

when I bench, I turn q-fan off and it idles at 38C and maxes out at 51C. I know I've still got some tolerance.

Vcore is at 1.425 and vDimm is at 3v

QUESTION: I've read that with the dual core processors, one shouldn't venture past 1.45 vCore. Is this a guideline for noobs who aren't cooling their rigs very well or is this a hardware limitation?

I've seen some screens of toledo's on 1.6vCore so I would imagine that could work for me. It is my belief that I will be able to push higher for benchmarks if I up the vCore some more, I just don't feel like wasting my 1200 chip without knowing about it first.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=124484 My lastest 3dmark06

Don't worry, I'm going to go full water cooling soon. Just gotta wait for another payment.

Thanks for all the help fellas.

First off, half multipliers are awful, go to 12 or 13. Next, try using a 10X multiplier and put your RAM on a divider. What is the max speed of the RAM?

ok, I did 12x250 and dropped my ram down to DDR 200 so I guess it's at DDR 300 right now with the oc... I didn't expect this to work, honestly... I could have sworn I've tried something like it before. BUT.. it's much slower than what I had before. I was at 28s for 1M superpi and now I'm at 35s bit hit in performance. But super stable. What can I do, up my FSB? Lock my HTT multiplier to 4 or 5x?

IF you go any higher then 250 then turn the HTT down to 3. Also with 4 sticks of ram in there it will default to pc2700 speeds, so you may want to go to 2x1 gig sticks.

k, well I'm running 272x11 ram is at DDR 410 and so far 1M SuperPi stable..

Where do I go now? I'm back down to 29s on that 1M speed of the ram is a huge bottle neck apparently.

I'd assume that if I keep the HTT mult on AUTO the mobo will just do it's best to set it as clost to 1Ghz as possible, right? Otherwise, I shouldn't be running if it's at 5 or 4x

Ya it is. As far as Vcore goes, once you get water you should be ok up to 1.6, but thats your call with that $1200 dollar cpu. I run mine at that voltage, with 22c idle and 34-36c load.

Alright, well I think I've accomplished what I came here to learn. Until I get water, I think I'm done messing around for numbers. I'm chilling out at a nice 2800Mhz and 400DDR on my ram with slightly raised voltages.

I've pushed and pushed and 3022 was the only stable 3Ghz + I could get.

I'll be back when I get water. All I know is I've got the highests 3dmark06 in that thread... so far.. .I'll check back tomorrow and see how many have beaten me. lol

Ok, I'm back... I've got a liquid cooler that I'm going to install later tonight. Again my original question stands and I need a greater number of opinions.

I've heard the max safe vcore under any conditions(frozen or not) is 1.45. I've also heard 1.6 and 1.65. Which is it?

I would assume that if I cool it better, I'll need less voltage to go higher stably. That is correct right? If I keep load tempts around 40C then I don't have to start lurking up too much past 1.45.

What are your opinions on OC'ing with water cooling?

1.6 for year-round operation, 1.67-1.7 for perhaps a year's worth of 24-7 operation.
