Red USB ports? - Page 3

Red ports generally mean that they have extra power supplied to them and/or they remain powered on while the pc is off for charging purposes (so you can charge your Phone or tablet a LOT faster). Some E-Sata ports also double as USB ports with the way they are shaped so they usually match color of whatever the USB ports on that bank are.. Gigabyte motherboards tend to have a lot of colored ports because they are loaded with tons of extra-powered ports (and usb3 ofc).

I believe both of these are correct.

Newer eSATA connectors are also USB ports, and for devices that support it, it provides both data through eSATA and power through extra-amperage USB. Usually called Powered eSATA. At the same time, It would make sense for the manufacturer to take advantage of this block of USB ports with extra-amperage and use them for "sleep and charge" ports, basically always-on USB ports.
