trouble overclocking 6800xt

Hi there, kinda new to this... anyway ive got an asus n6800xt, and i want to overclock it, ive unlocked the pipes and shaders, had a mess with them to see which ones are the most stable and give me the best performance, but then i went to overclock it through coolbits. It keeps starting to detect optimal frequency, but then cancels it straight away, i put all the pipes back to their normal states, and went and detected again.

It went ok that time giving me 348 on the core and 862 on the memory, the problem is, when i check the states on rivatuner through the hardware monitor, it says the memory has changed to 346/8 but the core stays at 299.25, can someone shed some light on this, am i doing something wrong??

thanks in advance

First of all, just to make sure, there are things like 2D freq and 3D freq. When I OC I raise only the 3D freq, because when running winamp (for ex) I don't need a super OCed graphic card.
Coolbits sets the optimal freq for the 3D mode, so when you are looking at the desktop or rivatuner the GPU is idle and it runs at 2D speeds wich are usualy lower than the 3D/OCed ones.

Just to check the behaviour of your card, star rivatuner monitor, and open a game, play a little and afterwards look at the history of the freq in the monitor. You should see your board switching between the low speed/high speed mode.

Btw, I read somewhere there's a good chance that after the pipes are unlocked it is almost impossible to OC any further, so the advice was to OC before actualy unlocking the card. Good luck!
