dual X1900XTX - Page 5

You cannot run 2 XTX's!!!! You have to get 1 xtx, and then the crossfire version of it, which will be slightly cheaper. The crossfire card is equivilent to a x1900xt give or take a few bits and pieces, so please do not buy 2 XTX's and moan why they don't work. Do some reading!

Thanks guys, I was actually going to buy an XTX tomorrow or the next day until I saw this post

I actually want to run crossfire, I do have an SLI motherboard though. I've heard rumors that you can or will be able to run ATI on SLI motherboards. I am shortly getting a P5N32-SLI Deluxe. I am of the mindset that if I spend $900 on something (AUS$, ie x1900XT) and sell it within 6 months, it works out pretty well- I call it renting..sometimes if I've bought the product cheap I'll even make money on it later, lol anywho..

Can anyone confirm/ deny these allegations?

re: watercooling.. someone posted recently that GPU's dont benefit as much as CPU's from watercooling, but when my tai chi comes next week I will be cooling with with water

re: gaming @ 30 FPS..TV is a constant 24 FPS framerate, we dont notice the frames, never a huge jump... but when you see it fluctuating between 14 and 50 when you are in fights or scrolling around large area's of the map.. so yes, if the game could constantly stay at 30, then it would more than likely be highly playable .. but 30 average is a completely different kettle of fish.

Anyway im practically in the same boat, just other side of the world..

Any advice aswell - I was looking at a sapphire, but they seem cheap, I wanted to maybe go a gigabyte.. so any advice on which brand to go for would be most appreciated!!

I dont think there is much of a difference at all if any between brands of cards, they might have different cooling and some even might have different clocks but at the end of the day you can do your own cooling and clocking so just get the cheapest, I think that is the way to go, underneath the stickers they are all the same.

i'm not saying you should get 30 fps. but with the best graphic card around your framerate should be around 50-60 fps, so the fluctuation will be much less.

anyway, of course if i had that kind of money, i'd go for crossfire or sli too

p.s. what SLI stand for anyway?

Please don't ask for reps, its against the rules.

No with that out of the way, where did you hear about being to run crossfire on an SLI board?

Sorry the meant it was a joke,

anywho,

I read (on some website, during my research, I cant provide this, sorry, maybe google will help..) that in the future, that sli MAY support ATI cards, and it's just basically driver support stopping this at the moment.

thats just bullcrap, why would ATI's biggest rival have support for their rivals cards on their own card-interface? CF runs in a completely different mode than SLI cards. The most optimized performance setting in CF Alternate Frame Rendering, sets one GPU to odd and another to even frames. It is specially optimized to let the Crossfire master card optimize and divide the amount of load in a way that you get most performance. How the hell can anyone make a chipset with support for CF's complex rendering methods and SLi's something? That will be one hell of a warm chipset that no one will ever make.
