And also, maybe get 6GB of Dominator's clocked at 2k?

Also, that is an excellent choice of CPU, PSU (although you COULD easily go lower wattage), and HDD. Do you have other HDD's? Because if you fill an SSD over halfway it can affect performance.

Also, do you need monitor, keyboard, mouse etc?
Hey, thanks for the comment. I have been struggling with the EVGA/ASUS thing for quite a while, going back and forth between em. I do really like that EVGA sliX4 board- is a bit costly for what it is - I mean, it IS kind of over the top, don't you think
Yes, sorry, I'll probably throw in a tb WD black or something for storage, and thanks I didn't know about SSD's slowing down as they fill

Have a logitech 6-15 and will be using a 46" sony hi def tv as my monitor, and for my gaming (just car racing sims and fsx) the mouse is pretty minor.

oh yeah, as far as memory, I'll seriously think about the corsair - I have always used corsair in the past and been happy
thanks again for your post

Just saying, if you really want that case, who am I to say you shouldn't get it cause of my opinion.
Hey, I asked for your opinion and I thank you for sharing it- will take a good hard look at the Lian Li's. cliche doesn't bother me at all, living in the wilderness and all, and this machine is for my pleasure and mine alone- but aesthetics does , so I'll take a look. And to be honest, I fell in love with the HAF long before I could afford a better case, so I do need to rethink. Thanks!

Ah, but the thing is, I have them.....and I agree, there are better newer cards - I think I better edit my original post to explain that funds are not unlimited - mind you, if we get a REALLY good price for the house........

nice build: can't complain with your parts choices...

just some life advice: you're probably older than me and know this well, but, still. given the speed at which these things depreciate, try not to go overboard, as some excess money spent on say a third 5870 or a second $500 SSD could go towards something more beneficial, like paying off the costs associated with moving

-e- where are my manners. welcome to OCN - hopefully you enjoy your stay

[QUOTE=KoolGuy;9219861]Why don't you rent the old house out? /QUOTE]

Oh wow, that is a bigger question that building a PC! We deliberated a long time over this, did the math, and decided to sell, but thanks for caring to ask!

A budget of 3k?

If you are willing to wait, like what the others said, really consider the EVGA SR-2 motherboard. Couple that with a single Xeon chip, and you got yourself a really nice rig.

If you say you want to keep the 9800's, keep 'em, 3 of those bad boys in SLI will still kick butt in gaming, and Folding.

Get an SSD as a boot drive, while maybe a 1TB Samsung Spinpont F3 for data storage.

PSU...you could probably do better than the Corsair HX1000. It's a great PSU, don't get me wrong, but something like the Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W gives you more room for future upgrades at a cheaper price with uncompromising efficiency and performance.

You might consider a better case for your whole set-up. Perhaps something like a the Silverstone TJ07, or an Obsidian 800D. This might prove handy when you get a

kickbutt watercooling loop set up! Can't forget water cooling when you have a budget like that.

All in all, since you aren't spending money on GPU's, you should come safely below $3000. Also, if you get the SR-2, if you ever feel outdated in the ever changing IT world, you can always pop in another Xeon, and be right at the top again. Of course, if you ever need more GPU power, there is the option of selling the 9800 GTX's and getting yourself something with more horsepower, like a GTX 480, or a Radeon HD 5870.

True, but how close are you to 3 grand without GPU's? I would think you're only at about 1500-1800, eh? You could technically just go with two high end single GPU's. Such as 2x5870s or 2xGTX480's, etc.
