2 gig or not 2 gig... That is the question!

So I have the single 1 gig stick in my sig... I am thinking about getting another one in like a day or so but before I drop more cash I am wondering is it really going to be worth it? I have BF2 and F.E.A.R So I am thinking I will be able to change it to high settings once I get another gig.... (I am also getting a 6800gs next week). Anyone with an experience before and after getting 2 gigs?

The extra gig will not make a difference with your quality settings. Your video card change will make that difference, however the extra gig will make a difference with the stuttering that happens. When you make quick turns and when you hit save points. When many attackers come after you etc..

the extra gig will be nice. you will get the most performance w/ the new gfx card... 2x the RAM and if you OC that best it will outperform a 6800GT.

I have 2x512... but just as an experiment I stuck my 2x512 sticks of Corsair in w/ my OCZ to see... and while I couldn't OC as much (you won't have to worry about that w/ only 2 sticks) the extra RAM allowed me to run Quake 4 on ultra settings instead of just High... I'm kicking myself for not getting 2gb a few months ago when I got my plat rev 2.

The extra gig of RAM will really help games like Quake 4 that require over 512mb of RAM for textures on ultra settings, and it will decrease your load times on games like Battlefield 2.
Also, you will see an increase as with another stick you'll be able to run dual channel... which effectivly doubles your RAM speed. (DDR400 runs at 200Mhz)

I've been thinkin about doing the same thing. I've been told by some people that it'll make a huge difference for BF2 and others have said it won't.

Do you think it will make a dif for me as well?

2 gigs is the key in bf2 and also fear, you might be able to put some of the setting s up a bit higher but as mentioned ya vid card might not be up to it. ya loading times will reduce massively to the point where you will probably be the first on the map and it will run more smoothly, no more frames but just better overall, it is worth it. I dont think anybody will say dont get another stick, if they do they just havent seen and realised the difference it can make, a better vid card could also be added to a list of things to get in the future but for now go the extra gig!!

It really depends on what settings you run the game at. If you run with high textures, in particular, then it will make a big difference as you won't need to access the page file, which stop in game stuttering. If you don't run with high textures though, 1GB of ram should suffice.

Yep, 2 sticks you can run 1T. I think it's a good move when you move to the 6800GS as you'll have a GFX capable of running the high settings.

of course 2gig is better, just buy newer ram and make sure your cpu has a good memory controller to run it at decent speeds
