What is quad channel RAM?

i was wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference is between quad channel 8gb kits and dual channel 8gb kits? any help would be very appreciated thanks

no difference since quad channel doesn't even exist, just marketing. But ones marketed as quad channel might be 4 sticks which will be way cheaper than 2 sticks.

No such thing as quad channel RAM in current desktop systems.

Its just 2 dual channel kits, and will run in dual channel.

Yeah but the newegg links listed say "desktop memory"...if it said server memory, well ok, that might ve been true.

Simple.

1 stick, single channel
2 sticks, dual channel
3 sticks, triple channel
4 sticks, quad channel
6 sticks, hex channel

What it actually is, is the number of modules necessary to run the motherboard channels. One stick you can only operate single channel, two sticks you can operate dual, 4 sticks you can operate 2 dual channels, etc. etc. It is confusing, but not really a marketing scheme as there is no real benefit in listing it this way...
